Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in St. John's. The role focuses on IFRS-compliant external reporting, internal management reporting, and process improvements within a dynamic, regulated utility context.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of practical and progressively responsible experience in financial reporting with IFRS.
• University degree in business plus CPA or equivalent designation.
• Knowledge of regulated utility, oil and gas, energy markets, or other capital-intensive industries is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Finance team with high energy, a results-oriented approach, and strong analytical and technical skills.
• Support the permanent Senior Financial Accountant in Financial Reporting.
• Prepare quarterly and annual IFRS-compliant external financial statements, including consolidation of multiple entities when required.
• Prepare and review monthly internal reporting.
• Analyze financial results and provide reliable information to meet stakeholder needs.
• Assess the ongoing financial reporting process to maximize effectiveness and identify opportunities to improve the function.
• Manage information requests from internal and external auditors as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare quarterly and annual external financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), including the consolidation of multiple legal entities where required.
• Prepare and review monthly internal reporting.
• Analyze financial results and prepare reliable information to meet stakeholder needs.
• Assess the ongoing financial reporting process to maximize effectiveness and efficiency, and identify and implement opportunities to improve the finance function.
• Manage information requests from internal and external auditors for the respective area, as required.

What You'll Need:

• Strong knowledge of IFRS and a minimum of five (5) years of practical and progressively responsible experience in financial reporting including experience with preparation of IFRS compliant financial statements.
• A University Degree in business supplemented with a professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent experience.
• Experience with researching and documenting technical accounting positions would be considered an asset.
• General knowledge of regulated utility, oil and gas, energy markets, or other capital intensive industry would be considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
