About the Opportunity
This multifaceted role involves managing accounting processes, ensuring financial reporting integrity, overseeing payables and treasury functions, assisting with forecasting activities, and providing strategic financial advice to external client executives or internal senior accounting managers.

Job Duties
Financial Accounting & Reporting:

1. Prepare monthly financial reports for senior managers and clients.
2. Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS/ASPE, and draft MD&A's.
3. Perform monthly financial analysis and reconciliations in accordance with internal control structures.
4. Prepare IFRS calculations for depletion, ARO, accretion and deferred taxes.
5. Collaborate closely with external auditors during audit cycles ensuring transparency and accountability.
6. Present audit findings/recommendations to Senior Managers and clients.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

1. Develop or manage annual budgets; analyze variances between actuals and budget.
2. Collaborate with department heads to prepare cash forecasts that inform strategic planning.
3. Manage cash flow, including cash forecasting, liquidity management, and optimization of working capital.

Advisory to Senior Managers and clients:

1. Serve as a trusted partner for corresponding with external auditors, tax advisors and regulatory authorities, ensuring timely and accurate information exchange.
2. Assess client needs and design and implement appropriate financial processes, controls and reports, including being a key member of new client onboardings or following major client changes (A&D).
3. Advise on potential risks related to business decisions impacting finances.
4. Provide strategic insights on financial results, investments and lending options.
5. Provide comprehensive financial analysis and strategic recommendations to support informed decision-making and business planning.
6. Report on key financial metrics, identifying trends, variances and opportunities for improvement.

Regulatory compliance:

1. Conduct technical analysis and document IFRS/ASPE decisions and ASC rules, including monitoring and recommending actions to Senior Managers for upcoming changes in accounting standards and rules.
2. Collaborate or lead filings for corporate tax, GST, T5/NRV and payroll, and any related CRA audits.
3. Prepare or oversee ESTMA, Statistics Canada and Modern Slavery reports.

Financial Controls and oversight:

1. Ensure team compliance of internal financial controls, including the timely and accurate completion of month-end close processes up to the trial balance level. Recommend and implement improvements.
2. Conduct regular reviews of accounting records/accounts reconciliation to identify areas for improvement or risk mitigation.
3. Oversee accounts payable ensuring accuracy in invoicing and payments cycles.

About You

• Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA or CA)
• 4 years public practice audit experience
• Extensive experience working with upstream oil and gas clients, industry experience within a junior to mid-sized company would be considered an asset.

Salary Range
$90,000 to $120,000 / year
