The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research invites applications for the following position:

Senior Finance Coordinator (Controller)

Competition Code: 2502 200S FIN Apr 9

Responsibilities:

  1. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the Sr Finance Coordinator is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information.
  2. Preparing accurate and timely financial reports and statements.
  3. Ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures are in place and align with Institute policies.
  4. Reviewing accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness.
  5. Assisting in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements along with management reports.
  6. Liaising with other departments as part of the annual budgeting process and working with team leaders to establish financial/budgetary goals.
  7. Supervising assigned staff, leading a culture of continual improvement and process efficiency, ensuring adequate internal controls are present.
  8. Identifying internal control issues and working with the Director of Finance & Operations to implement solutions.
  9. Taking a lead role in the implementation of the Institute’s new Enterprise Resource Planning/Student Information System and other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance & Operations.

Qualifications:

  1. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance.
  2. A combination of equivalent educational qualifications and work experience may be considered.
  3. Previous experience with financial systems and management/supervisory experience would be considered an asset.
  4. A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff and other agencies is a must.
  5. The successful candidate must have an extensive understanding of Métis culture.

Remuneration: A competitive salary and benefits package

Term: May 2025 – May 2026 (subject to renewal)
