Senior Family Law Lawyer for mid-sized, full service law firm client, North York.

Job Type: Full-Time Permanent.

Target Compensation: From CA$175,000 to CA$200,000 per annum, plus benefits. Client is also open to proposals.

Work Location: Hybrid - combination of 2 days remote-based and 3 days onsite at client\'s North York office, with free parking provided. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead a diverse caseload of family law files, from intake through resolution or trial.
  • Provide strategic legal advice and advocacy in court, mediation, arbitration, and negotiations.
  • Mentor and support junior lawyers and staff within the family law group.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, delivering excellent service and results.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, leveraging your book of business and expanding the firm’s client base.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other practice areas to provide comprehensive client solutions.
  • Additional law practice responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

Education: LL.B. or J.D. degree from a recognized law school.

Professional Credentials: Licensed L1 member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Preferred Work Experience: At least 8+ years of experience in a family law practice.

Sector Experience: Law firm experience required.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements:

  • Proficiency with legal case management, legal billings, legal research, and legal documents management applications.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset.

Task-Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:

  • A full or partial portable book of business is required.
  • Strong litigation and negotiation skills, with proven courtroom experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial and property matters.
  • Excellent communication, drafting, and client management skills. Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character.
  • Proven ability to respond to sensitive and confidential matters with tact, discretion, and excellent judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
  • Strong relationship management skills including client relations management, business networking, negotiation, and consulting / advisory skills.
  • Demonstrated successful experience of prioritizing work, making decisions and communicating with others within a values framework of respect, equity, anti-racism, diversity and inclusivity.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to promptly provide a minimum of 2 qualified employment references upon request who are available to speak with either Marberg or Marberg\'s client.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of position responsibilities.
  • Additional satisfactory Background Checks and Employment References as required.
