Job summary

Imperial Oil is seeking a Senior External Reporting Advisor to lead and coordinate high-quality external financial reporting to investors, regulators and stakeholders. The role ensures US GAAP compliance, effective disclosures, and governance across the reporting cycle.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in external reporting and a CPA designation, plus experience in a large public company or public accounting. Collaboration with executives and global teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of external financial reporting and technical accounting experience.
  • CPA designation.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline.
  • Experience in a public accounting firm and/or large public corporate environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of US GAAP and external reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation, review, and coordination of quarterly and annual external filings in accordance with US GAAP and securities regulations.
  • Manage end-to-end external reporting process to ensure accurate, complete and timely filings.
  • Support MD&A, quarterly and annual filings, and other external reporting documents.
  • Ensure ICFR effectiveness related to external reporting and disclosure processes.
  • Research, analyze and document accounting implications of complex transactions.
  • Support Executive Leadership and Investor Relations with external financial information.
  • Monitor evolving accounting standards and disclosure requirements with finance teams and global partners.

What Role You Will Play on Our Team

The Senior External Reporting Advisor is responsible for the preparation, review, analysis, and delivery of high-quality external financial reporting to investors, regulators, and other key stakeholders. As a trusted technical accounting and reporting expert, this role ensures compliance with US GAAP, securities regulations, and corporate reporting requirements while supporting the Company's reporting strategy, governance framework, and disclosure processes.

What You Will Do
External Reporting & Financial Disclosure
  • Lead the preparation, review, and coordination of quarterly and annual external filings, including consolidated financial statements, related note disclosures, and supporting documentation, in accordance with US GAAP, securities regulations, and internal reporting policies.
  • Manage the end-to-end external reporting process to ensure accurate, complete, and timely filings with applicable securities regulators.
  • Support the preparation and review of Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), quarterly and annual filings, and other external reporting documents.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) related to external reporting and disclosure processes.
  • Research, analyze, and document the accounting and disclosure implications of complex, unusual, and strategic business transactions.
  • Support Executive Leadership and Investor Relations through the preparation of financial information included in external communications and investor presentations.
  • Monitor evolving accounting standards, reporting and disclosure requirements collaborating with finance teams and global counterparts to assess the impact on the organization.
Audit and Stakeholder Management
  • Act as a trusted advisor to finance teams, senior leaders, and business stakeholders on technical accounting, external reporting, and disclosure matters.
  • Act as a primary liaison with external auditors related to external financial reporting and disclosure matters.
Process Improvement and Governance
  • Participate in implementation of accounting standards, reporting technologies, automation initiatives, and control enhancements.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance reporting processes, controls, efficiencies, and governance practices.
About You
Skills & Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive external financial reporting and technical accounting experience.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a public accounting firm and/or large public corporate environment.
Technical Expertise
  • Advanced knowledge of US GAAP and external reporting requirements.
  • Strong technical accounting capabilities and sound professional judgement.
  • Strong business acumen and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills.
Communication & Influence
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player with a customer‑focused mindset and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) or other securities regulatory filings.
  • Experience in the oil and gas, energy, or natural resources industry is considered an asset.
