Job summary

D-Wave Systems Inc. in Burnaby is seeking an Experimental Physicist to join the Processor Development team.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary group of scientists, designers, software engineers and cryogenic specialists to advance superconducting quantum processors. You will design and run experiments, develop models and simulations, and contribute to software infrastructure for modeling and calibration.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MSc in physics or related field, or equivalent experimental research experience
• Strong critical thinking and technical problem-solving skills
• Ability to conduct independent research with deep understanding
• Ability to quickly learn new technical topics
• Strong software development experience for experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis; willingness to learn new languages
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work on interdisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication skills with experience summarizing results
• Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a time-sensitive environment
• Solid background in quantum information, superconducting devices, device physics, noise models

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute experimental procedures to quantify, understand, and operate a wide range of superconducting devices
• Develop parametric designs to improve processor operation or enable new capabilities
• Develop theoretical models and simulations to represent and understand experimental results on physical devices
• Develop analysis routines to fit theoretical models to data and to detect outlier behavior in large complex systems of superconducting devices
• Regularly and clearly document experimental results for the broader processor development team
• Create and contribute to LISP software infrastructure for modeling, calibrating and operating processors
• Communicate and collaborate with other internal teams at D-Wave including marketing, intellectual property, applications development and engineering
