Job summary

D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NASDAQ: QBTS) is seeking an Experimental Physicist to join our Processor Development team.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary group of physicists, engineers, and software developers to advance superconducting quantum processors and understand their real-world performance. You will design and execute experiments, develop models and simulations, and contribute to LISP software infrastructure while collaborating across teams to push the boundaries of quantum computing.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MSc in physics or related discipline, or equivalent experimental research experience.
• Strong critical thinking and technical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to conduct independent research with deep expertise.
• Ability to come up to speed in new technical topics quickly and effectively.
• Strong software development experience for experimental design, automation, data acquisition, and data analysis; willingness to learn new languages.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills for summarizing results to broad audiences.
• Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in time-sensitive environments.
• Bonus: background in quantum information, superconducting devices, noise models.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute experimental procedures to quantify, understand, and operate a wide range of superconducting devices.
• Develop parametric designs to improve processor operation or enable new capabilities.
• Develop theoretical models and simulations to represent and understand experimental results on physical devices.
• Develop analysis routines to fit theoretical models to data and to detect outlier behavior in large complex systems of superconducting devices.
• Regularly document experimental results for the broader processor development team.
• Create and contribute to LISP software infrastructure for modeling, calibrating and operating processors.
• Communicate and collaborate with internal teams across Marketing, IP, applications development and engineering.
