Job summary

EllisDon seeks a Senior Estimator in Canada to lead procurement, bid processes, and pre-construction for civil projects. You will manage budgets, assemble estimates, and coordinate with sub-trades and management to ensure competitive bids.

The role requires 6–10 years of civil estimating experience, a construction-related degree or diploma, and strong knowledge of bidding strategies. Expect a challenging, safety-focused environment with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • Construction-related degree or diploma with 6–10 years in civil estimating.
  • Experience estimating earthworks, undergrounds and concrete in public/industrial settings.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating objectives, strategies and contracts.
  • Ability to create conceptual budgets and support bid decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team through procurement, bid process and pre-construction.
  • Work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Mentor and train junior estimating staff.
  • Assemble accurate, detailed budgets and estimates.
  • Handle Time & Materials, Unit rate, Design Build and Lump Sum bids.
  • Organize sub-contractor quotes, re-write binders, assist buy-out.
  • Monitor project success; assist value engineering and risk notes.
  • Build and maintain sub-trades relationships for future bids.
  • Distribute quotes/budgets; flag concerns with management.
  • Maintain databases for labour rates, materials, and costs.

You as a Senior Estimator will:
  • Confidently lead a team through project procurement, the bid process and pre-construction
  • Work under pressure and meeting strict deadlines
  • Mentor and train junior estimating staff
  • Assemble accurate, detailed, and well-organized budgets and estimates
  • Work with various contract types - including Time and Material, Unit rate, Design Build and Lump sum.
  • Organize sub-contractor quotes when the bid is successful, re-writing binders and assisting the buy-out process
  • Monitor the success of a project, assisting with value engineering and noting potential challenges
  • Build and maintain relationships with sub-trades for future opportunities
  • Distribute sub-trade quotes and budgets to personnel, flagging areas of concern and coordinating with management to accommodate risk within the bid price
  • Maintain databases, including labour rates, material pricing, and project costs, for future reference
Is this the right role for you?
  • You have a construction related degree or diploma and 6 to 10 years of experience in Civil construction estimating or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience
  • Experience in estimating earthworks, underground, and concrete projects in public and industrial settings.
  • You have an advanced knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts
  • You have extensive experience creating conceptual budgets
  • You have the ability to work effectively and accurately in time-sensitive situations while delegating to a team
  • You have experience with estimating software (Bid2win)
