A prominent employment agency is seeking a talented Senior Estimator to join a leading team in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will prepare planning and cost estimates, coordinate with operations teams, and ensure compliance with company policies. This role is ideal for candidates with strong mathematical skills and a solid understanding of the construction industry. Candidates must have relevant post-secondary education and 5–10 years of estimating experience. Willingness to travel to the US is necessary.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience in an estimating role related to construction.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare preliminary planning and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate designs and budgets with operations teams.
  • Record and compare bids from vendors.
  • Develop RFQ specifications and bid pricing spreadsheets.
  • Solicit vendor quotes collaboratively.
  • Attend pre-bid and design meetings.
  • Assist with preparing change orders.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures.
  • Perform estimating tasks including material take-offs.
  • Prepare proposals and respond to bid clarification questions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs.

If you are a talented and experienced Senior Estimator, Aplin has the right opportunity for you! Our client, a leader in their field, has partnered with Aplin to grow their team in Calgary, Alberta!

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare preliminary planning and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate preliminary designs and budgets with electrical, mechanical, and field operations teams.
  • Record and compare bids from multiple vendors and subcontractors.
  • Develop Scope of Work (RFQ) specifications and bid pricing spreadsheets.
  • Solicit vendor quotes in collaboration with the procurement team.
  • Attend pre-bid and design meetings as required.
  • Assist with preparing change orders for operations.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and policies.
  • Perform estimating tasks such as material take-offs, coordination with union and non-union contractors, review and consolidation of third-party quotes, preparation and completion of final estimates, and submission of bid forms.
  • Prepare detailed proposals and assist in responding to bid clarification questions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce equipment and supply costs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Ability to interpret and navigate specifications and technical plans.
  • Proficiency in presenting proposals and project details.
  • Strong multitasking abilities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, particularly in buildings and acoustic structures.
  • Must be able to travel to the US when required.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a related field with 5–10 years of experience in an estimating role related to construction.
  • A degree in engineering, civil engineering, or construction engineering is an asset.
  • Additional certifications in general construction, roofing, electrical work, or related trades are considered an asset.
