Job Description:

Are you ready for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to drive sustainability in one of the UK's most extraordinary natural environments?

Sustainable Futures Group (SFG) is proud to once again partner with a world-leading infrastructure organisation to recruit a Senior Environmental Sustainability Advisor for a landmark major project on the Isle of Skye, Scotland - a place where your career can leave a lasting legacy and your lifestyle can embrace the wild outdoors.

Why Skye?

If you crave adventure alongside a meaningful career, this is your ideal move. Imagine completing your day’s work and stepping straight into untamed mountains, breathtaking coastlines, and abundant wildlife habitats.

With Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), protected marine environments, and ancient landscapes all around you, Skye offers a truly unique setting for environmental professionals ready to make a tangible impact.

About the Project

You’ll join the Fort Augustus to Skye Reinforcement Project - a critical upgrade to Scotland’s energy infrastructure that is working to safeguard environmental habitats while delivering sustainable energy solutions. This role is project critical and will play a key part in supporting sustainability actions across one of the UK's most environmentally sensitive construction programmes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the Environmental Manager and project teams to deliver environmental management plans, actions, and sustainability objectives on a major infrastructure project
  • Driving compliance with environmental legislation, consents, permits, and planning conditions
  • Managing on-site environmental risk, helping to mitigate impacts on land, watercourses, and habitats
  • Leading day-to-day environmental assurance activities, including inspections, audits, and incident investigations
  • Engaging with regulatory authorities, landowners, and project stakeholders to maintain positive relationships
  • Mentoring and supporting more junior Environmental Advisors and Graduates where required
  • Contributing to habitat restoration, land management, and peatland protection efforts
  • Advising on ecology, water management, flood risk, and civil construction activities on site

Why Join?

  • Incredible Location - Be based in one of the UK's most stunning and ecologically rich regions
  • Accommodation Provided - Self-contained en-suite pods on Skye, fully equipped for a comfortable stay
  • Career Advancement - Join a business committed to developing and promoting environmental professionals with genuine long-term progression available
  • Work-Life Balance - Flexible working patterns (minimum of 3–4 nights per week based on-site in Skye)
  • Team Culture - Supportive, close-knit project teams focused on collaboration and shared success
  • Meaningful Impact - Work on a project where your expertise will directly help protect Scotland’s landscapes for future generations

What We’re Looking For:

  • Demonstrable professional experience in environmental management on infrastructure, construction, energy, or linear projects (e.g., rail, highways, utilities)
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, consenting, Section 37 conditions, and compliance monitoring
  • Good understanding of ecology, habitat management, flood risk, watercourse protection, and civil engineering activities
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills - able to liaise with site teams, clients, regulators, and landowners
  • Full UK driving licence (essential)
  • Passion for sustainability and an appreciation for working outdoors in remote, rugged environments

What’s on Offer:

  • A competitive Basic Salary
  • Company Car
  • Subsistence Allowance: Up to £250 per week (plus meals)
  • Accommodation Provided in private en-suite pods on Skye
  • Annual Bonus Scheme
  • The Chance to Work in One of the UK’s Most Beautiful Natural Environments
  • Career Progression - opportunities for professional development and career growth
  • Family-Friendly Policies (including enhanced parental leave)
  • Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave, recognition schemes and much more…

This is more than just a job - it’s a career-defining opportunity to deliver environmental excellence while experiencing one of the wildest, most awe-inspiring places in the UK.
