Strum is currently looking to expand our services and looking for a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental Assessment and Approvals team, in Halifax, NS.

A day in your life at Strum :

  • Engage in delivering services to key clients such as project planning and management, environmental assessment, public engagement, and regulatory support.
  • Conduct and manage technical projects for clients on behalf of Strum.
  • Conduct technical report writing.
  • Assign, assist and monitor staff on field projects.
  • Develop methodologies, organize field programs, and coordinate logistics needed for a team to conduct those programs efficiently.
  • Carry out field work such as baseline surveys (wildlife, flora, and fauna), sample collection, and monitoring.
  • Have the ability to travel and work throughout Atlantic Canada.
  • Prepare client deliverables such as analytical tables, technical reports, estimates, and proposals following our quality standards.
  • Support existing teams while demonstrating the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Communicate with other staff, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Adhere to health, safety and environment policies, safe work practices, procedures, and guidelines in the execution of all work.

What you bring to Strum :

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or related environmental discipline.
  • Minimum 7-10 years environmental experience.
  • A relevant professional designation would be considered an asset (e.g. P. Biol, EP, PMP, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment to a high degree of detail.
  • Eager to perform a wide range of technical project types and roles.
  • Consulting background / experience in project management would be considered an asset.
  • Experience of managing a portfolio of projects and working with a team of technical professionals to ensure projects are executed in full compliance with quality standards and applicable regulatory criteria.
  • Possess professional demeanour and communicate with excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Demonstrate skills in Word and other current software used in data collection, compilation, and presentation.
  • Desire to research information related to projects and to develop solutions associated with various methodologies, regulatory criteria, and industry standard practices.
  • Able to plan timelines, manage one’s own schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to evaluate and improve both personal and company performance and processes.
