Job summary

GEMTEC Consulting Engineers and Scientists Limited. is seeking a Senior Environmental Professional to support growing teams across New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada.

Based in Fredericton, Moncton or Saint John, you will collaborate with engineers and environmental scientists on diverse projects including infrastructure, land development, and renewable energy.   • Undergraduate degree in Biology, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an environmental professional role.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal environmental policies and legislation.
  • Excellent project management with scope, execution strategies, and QA/QC oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and execute environmental deliverables (EIAs, Environmental Monitoring Reports, Permit Applications) for various projects.
  • Plan, execute, and manage field programs relevant to terrestrial/aquatic biology (avifauna, wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, species at risk).
  • Coordinate, prepare, and review provincial and federal environmental permitting applications.
  • Provide oversight of field and office staff, including health and safety, QA/QC practices.
  • Prepare and review proposals, work plans and budgets; contribute to project management.
  • Collaborate with GEMTEC staff across offices on environmental permitting and related projects.
  • Coordinate and complete environmental and socio-economic studies, Aboriginal, stakeholder, and public consultations.

We currently have an opening for a permanent full-time Senior Environmental Professional based in any of the following NB offices: Fredericton, Moncton or Saint John.

About the Role

The position provides the opportunity to primarily support the growing team in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and across Canada. You will work with a team of engineers, and environmental scientists on a variety of environmental projects in support of infrastructure and land development, renewable energy development and mine development.Some of the key responsibilities are:

  • Planning, development and execution of environmental deliverables including Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Monitoring Reports, Permit Applications, etc. for proposed development projects in various industry sectors under provincial and/or federal processes.
  • Planning, execution, and management of field programs/surveys relevant to the assessment of terrestrial and/or aquatic biology including avifauna, wildlife, vegetation (including rare plants), aquatics, wetlands, species at risk, etc.
  • Involved in coordinating, preparing, and reviewing provincial and federal environmental permitting applications.
  • Provide oversight of field and office staff including review of health and safety plans, survey methodology, QA/QC practices, etc.
  • Preparation and review of proposals, work plans and budgets as well as contributing or leading the management of projects.
  • Collaboration with other GEMTEC staff and offices on environmental permitting and related environmental projects of various sizes.
  • Involved in coordinating and completing environmental and socioeconomic studies, Aboriginal, stakeholder, and public consultation programs.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in related field such as Biology, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a related environmental professional role.
  • A demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable municipal, provincial, and federal policies, guidelines and legislation for environmental assessments.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to develop scope of works, execution strategies, and experience with overseeing management of environmental related work.
  • Certified wetland delineator would be considered an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Prior work experience in environmental consulting will be considered an asset
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Travel may be required throughout Atlantic Canada
