Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. seeks a Senior Environmental Management Practitioner in Ontario (Guelph, Cambridge, Waterloo) with a potential fully remote option. Lead environmental due diligence and compliance programs for industrial clients across North America, mentoring staff and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.

You will develop strategies under EPA/CEPA/OWRA frameworks, manage projects, and contribute to business growth while maintaining high standards of client service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, earth science, environmental, civil, or chemical engineering (required).
• Advanced degree in a related field preferred.
• 8+ years of consulting experience (required).
• Experience conducting transactional environmental due diligence.
• Experience managing environmental compliance, risk, permitting, planning, and environmental oversight.
• Ability to travel to client facilities as needed.
• Excellent writing and communication skills (required).
• OSHA/MSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training paid by the firm.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage environmental transaction due diligence services for acquisitions, divestitures, financing, and development projects (Phase One ESAs, LECRs).
• Direct environmental compliance services (multi-media audits/reviews) for diverse clients.
• Develop compliance documents and risk management strategies per Ontario/Canadian regulations.
• Provide litigation support in compliance areas.
• Review pending/new regulations and develop client strategies.
• Review and prepare technical reports, letters, memos, plans, specs, proposals.
• Provide project management, technical advice and training on environmental compliance and sustainability.
• Support Geosyntec's marketing and client development.

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Senior Environmental Management Practitioner to join one of our offices in Guelph, Waterloo or Cambridge, ON, with the possibility of a fully remote working option at the discretion of the Company. This position will collaborate with a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team across North America, taking a lead role in shaping environmental compliance and due diligence strategies, and driving client growth within the industrial sector.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks.

Some of the key responsibilities for this position may include:

• Leading and managing environmental transaction due diligence services for acquisitions, divestitures, financing, and development projects. Transactional due diligence services will include Phase One Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Limited Environmental Compliance Reviews (LECRs)
• Directing environmental compliance services, such as compliance audits and reviews (multi-media) at diverse array of clients (e.g., manufacturing facilities, etc.);
• Developing compliance documents and risk management strategies in accordance with Ontario and Canadian regulations, including the Environmental Protection Act (EPA), Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA), Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), and applicable municipal and provincial permitting requirements;
• Providing litigation support services in these compliance areas;
• Review and interpretation of pending and new regulations and developing strategies for clients;
• Reviewing and preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
• Providing clients with project management, technical advice and training related to environmental compliance, sustainability, and environmental management systems; and
• Support Geosyntec's marketing efforts and client business development.

Education and Licensure

• Bachelor's degree environmental science, chemistry, earth science (geology or hydrology), environmental, civil, or chemical engineering, or a related field of study. (required)
• Advanced degree in a related field of study. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• At least 8 years of experience working in a consulting environment, with a working knowledge of industrial processes, and their impact to the environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
• Experience conducting transactional environmental due diligence including reviews of contamination and environmental compliance concerns (required)
• Experience in managing environmental compliance, risk, permitting, planning, compliance and environmental oversight of (e.g., manufacturing facility) projects. (required)
• Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
• Experience managing the overall delivery of projects including project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management. (required)
• Experience in development and implementation of environmental compliance training programs. (desirable)
• Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
• Experience with Microsoft Office products. (required)
• Ability to make presentations at industrial conferences and at client meetings. (required)
• This position requires OSHA/MSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. Below is the range that we in good faith believe is the potential compensation for this role at the time of this posting and is only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
