Position Type: Fulltime
Compensation:$47.42 - $ 55.96 per hour
POSITION OVERVIEW:

This impactful role combines technical expertise, administrative leadership, and supervisory responsibilities within the Infrastructure Development Division of the Engineering Department. As a key contributor, you’ll oversee day-to-day section operations, assign development projects to technical team members, and provide guidance to ensure the success of your team. You’ll also take the lead on your own development projects and tackle special initiatives that contribute to our city’s growth and innovation. This role offers the opportunity to exercise considerable independent judgment in technical and administrative tasks, while collaborating with leadership on complex technical challenges, policy decisions, and financial considerations. Your efforts will directly shape Maple Ridge’s development landscape, and your work will be recognized for its effectiveness and adherence to high standards.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Engineering Technology, plus considerable related experience including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of municipal engineering principles, standards, methods and techniques and of applicable departmental policies, procedures, standards and bylaws.
  • Thorough knowledge of municipal technical engineering practices including their application to project design and the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, contract documents and related material.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in construction within the municipality and of survey methods and functions.
  • Sound knowledge of the functions and responsibilities of various internal departments and external agencies as they relate to the work performed.
  • Ability to provide limited supervision to a small group of technical subordinates engaged in reviewing applications, conducting site inspections and ensuring compliance with relevant bylaws and to make work assignments to one or more technical subordinates and to oversee day-to-day section operations.
  • Ability to administer engineering projects, collect and analyze technical, statistical, costing and related data and information.
  • Ability to review drawings for technical accuracy and conformance with applicable municipal bylaws, standards and related specifications and to monitor construction projects ensuring satisfactory completion of same.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, contract documents and related material.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, reports, correspondence and various other materials related to the work, and to carry out assigned special projects.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Certification as a member of the Association of Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC.
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.

HOURS OF WORK: 70 Hours biweekly
