What does our engineering team do?

Our engineering team has delivered thousands of small dams across the country over the last 87 years. So much so that we now own over 6,000 water retaining structures responsible for the creation of over 1.2 million acres of wetland. This makes DUC the largest single dam owner in Canada in terms of sheer numbers.

The real strength of our talented group of highly qualified engineering professionals comes from their ability to function as a well-coordinated team that brings a combined wealth of diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives.

What will you do?

DUC is looking for a confident, energetic and dedicated Senior Engineering Technologist to join our team in Alberta.

As a Senior Engineering Technologist, you will be responsible for supervising and managing the construction and repair of water control structures, working towards the retention of essential wetlands on the landscape. You will also support the engineering team with planning, construction procurement, cost estimation, and design – activities that appeal to you because you love a balance of office work and field work. You will have the opportunity to travel to remote field sites for construction or to be involved with inspections of small dams and water control structures as part of DUC’s dam safety mandate.

  • Five years of directly related experience in civil engineering.
  • Currently have (or ability to obtain) a certified engineering technologist certification (or other provincial equivalent).
  • Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specifications.
  • Construction supervision, construction inspection, or construction management experience.
  • Strong planning, reporting, and project management skills
  • Practical knowledge of construction involving heavy equipment, construction of drainage infrastructure and / or earthworks (dams, embankments), and strong appreciation for construction site safety.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work long flexible hours, and travel as required.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.

Assets

  • Experience with RTK GPS topographic surveying equipment.
  • Experience towing trailers and operating ATVs.
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s Dam Safety regulatory framework.

What We Offer

  • 3 weeks’ vacation with an additional 5 paid personal days and 10 sick days.
  • The option for a hybrid work arrangement.
