Growth is the engine of any marketplace. In this role, you will be leading the Marketing Tech engineering team that is directly responsible for Thumbtack’s customer growth. The team is highly interdisciplinary, encompassing engineers with a variety of skill sets including frontend engineering, backend engineering, data engineering, and machine learning / optimizations. You’ll partner with product, design, data science, and marketing leads to develop and execute a growth strategy for Thumbtack, and help build critical infrastructure and systems that power that growth and enable the team to move fast.

Responsibilities

1. Build and grow an engineering organization with a strong culture of excellence and agility. The team currently has 10 engineers and will grow quickly.
2. Hire and support senior technical leaders to scale the organization and achieve growth goals across channels.
3. Collaborate closely with marketing to understand needs and work with engineering, product, design, and analytics teams to craft a vision and strategy for growth.
4. Ensure the team is set up for success by planning infrastructure needs, including backend systems, machine learning models, frontend infrastructure, and experimental setups for rapid testing.
5. Work with engineering leaders to continually improve Thumbtack’s engineering culture in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience in senior engineering management roles.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams to achieve results.
• Up-to-date with technological innovations; able to guide evolution and contribute code.

• Experience at a growth-stage consumer tech company.
• Experience with marketplace businesses.
• Experience building marketing technology (martech).
• Managing managers is a plus but not required.
