Job summary

Tatham Engineering in Ontario seeks a Senior Engineer for our Mechanical Engineering team. The role can be based in Collingwood, Barrie, or Guelph and centers on delivering mechanical designs for a range of building types.

Responsibilities include mentoring junior staff, project management, and business development while collaborating with clients and multi-disciplinary teams. A P.Eng in Ontario and 15 years’ experience are required.

Qualifications

• P.Eng licensure in Ontario required and must be current.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in consulting.
• Working knowledge of Ontario Building Code and ASHRAE/CSA/NFPA standards.
• Experience designing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and building automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and projects for commercial, institutional, industrial and municipal buildings.
• Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance on multi-disciplinary projects.
• Manage projects and contribute to business development efforts.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, and design teams; conduct site inspections and prepare reports.
• Develop specifications and perform calculations for mechanical systems.

We are seeking to fill a new role of Senior Engineer for our Mechanical Engineering department. This position can be based out of our Collingwood, Barrie or Guelph office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing mechanical engineering designs and projects serving a range of sectors including but not limited to Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, and Municipal Buildings. These projects involve multiple systems such as HVAC, domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, building automation and fire protection systems. Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and regulations are required to complete these projects. Work assignments may include design of mechanical systems for buildings, condition assessments of existing systems, report writing, performing site inspections, and providing direction to contractors.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for mentoring junior staff, project management and business development, and collaborating on multi-disciplinary projects with clients, architects, and other design team members.

Key Position Requirements

• P.Eng. in the Province of Ontario
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• Minimum of 15 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in the consulting industry
• Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, and associated standards including ASHRAE, CSA and NFPA.
• Detailed engineering experience with mechanical systems including preparation of calculations and reports, equipment selection, and design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
• Experience preparing specifications for equipment and associated systems
• Proficiency with design software (AutoCAD, REVIT, Carrier HAP or similar)
• Full knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with decarbonization and energy efficiency retrofits would be an asset
• Experience with business development would be an asset
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent technical and analytical skills
• Experience mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineering staff
• Enthusiasm to work in a team structure and a willingness to guide, help and collaborate with others

Expected Hiring Range for This Position

$115,000 to $165,000
