Job summary

Tatham Engineering Limited is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead mechanical design and project delivery for Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, and Municipal Buildings across Ontario. Based in Collingwood, Barrie, or Guelph, you will mentor staff, manage projects, and collaborate with clients, architects, and design teams.

The ideal candidate holds a P.Eng in Ontario, a Mechanical Engineering degree, and at least 15 years of consulting experience with HVAC, plumbing, and building automation

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and project delivery for mechanical systems in buildings.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance to the team.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, and design teams on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Prepare calculations, specifications, and reports; perform site inspections as needed.

Job description

We are seeking to fill a new role ofSenior Engineer for our Mechanical Engineering department. This position can be based out of our Collingwood, Barrie or Guelph office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing mechanical engineering designs and projects serving a range of sectors including but not limited to Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, and Municipal Buildings. These projects involve multiple systems such as HVAC, domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, building automation and fire protection systems. Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and regulations are required to complete these projects. Work assignments may include design of mechanical systems for buildings, condition assessments of existing systems, report writing, performing site inspections, and providing direction to contractors.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for mentoring junior staff, project management and business development, and collaborating on multi-disciplinary projects with clients, architects, and other design team members.

Key Position Requirements
  • P.Eng. in the Province of Ontario
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in the consulting industry
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, and associated standards including ASHRAE, CSA and NFPA.
  • Detailed engineering experience with mechanical systems including preparation of calculations and reports, equipment selection, and design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
  • Experience preparing specifications for equipment and associated systems
  • Proficiency with design software (AutoCAD, REVIT, Carrier HAP or similar)
  • Full knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with decarbonization and energy efficiency retrofits would be an asset
  • Experience with business development would be an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills
  • Experience mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineering staff
  • Enthusiasm to work in a team structure and a willingness to guide, help and collaborate with others

Expected Hiring Range for This Position

$115,000 to $165,000
