Job Description:

ERG is a research and consulting firm providing support to federal, state, and commercial clients. We offer multidisciplinary teams with expertise in engineering, science, economics, public health, informational technology, and communications. We seek highly motivated individuals with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer with Energetics Processing experience to support energetics and chemical manufacturing processes, including evaluating safe processes, equipment, and facility design. Responsibilities include formulating risk mitigation strategies, providing technical expertise in process startup activities, evaluating SOPs, investigating malfunctions and incidents, and interacting with technical customers. The role involves project management, meeting facilitation, incident investigation, and hazard analysis facilitation. This full-time position is based at a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland, and involves collaboration with ERG personnel at the site and in our Chantilly and Arlington offices.

The position requires full-time on-site work at Indian Head, MD, located approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:
  • Providing technical evaluations on process engineering, safety, and hazard analysis projects related to energetics research, development, and manufacturing.
  • Planning and executing hazard analyses and risk assessments, including PHAs, PrHAs, JHAs, LOPAs, FMEAs, SHAs, QRAs, and O&SHA.
  • Applying root cause analysis and fault tree analysis techniques in malfunction and incident investigations.
  • Developing safety, environmental, engineering, and quality documentation for process startup and re-start efforts.
  • Reviewing SOPs for energetics processing operations.
  • Performing process design tasks, including reviewing drawings, equipment, specifications, and calculations.
  • Providing on-site support, participating in technical meetings, drafting minutes, reviewing technical information, and conducting plant inspections.
  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • At least 20 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong background in process engineering, safety, and hazard analysis.
  • Expertise in energetic manufacturing processes is highly desirable.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience leading engineering and safety reviews with stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain or hold a Department of Defense Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Experience:
  • Extensive experience in energetics processing, including mixing, casting, reaction chemistry, research, manufacturing, and machining of energetic compounds.
