Senior Engineer – Control Systems and Automation

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Automation and Controls Engineer to design and implement sustainable automation projects as part of our engineering team.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to leverage extensive knowledge and experience to lead the design and delivery of capital projects in an industrial environment. It also involves supporting testing & commissioning activities and providing technical support to operations and maintenance teams as needed.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Automation, Instrumentation, and Control Systems, you will work in a collaborative environment with a diverse team and face exciting challenges. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Developing and maintaining PLC and DCS programming, especially with Allen Bradley Control Logix, PLC5, and Foxboro systems.
2. Designing and implementing automation systems, including control philosophies and application strategies.
3. Developing and configuring operator interfaces (HMIs) and designing user-friendly control systems.
4. Ensuring effective integration of network protocols (DeviceNet, HART, TCP/IP) within systems.
5. Translating process flow diagrams, block flow diagrams, and P&ID's into detailed control narratives and system documentation.
6. Reading and interpreting electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, and instrumentation documentation.
7. Leading and managing capital projects, including feasibility studies, defining project scope, and engineering design.
8. Troubleshooting, upgrading, and optimizing automation systems and equipment using problem-solving skills and technical expertise.

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to safety for yourself and your team.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering—Automation, Electrical, Electronics, Control, or Chemical.
• P.Eng. designation.
• Solid experience in automation.
• Preferably, experience working in an engineering firm, automation solutions provider, or plant engineering team.
• Experience with industrial automation projects.
