Job summary

Kova Engineering (Saskatchewan) Ltd. seeks a Senior Engineer to join its Saskatoon team and drive technically meaningful projects with strong client focus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, structural, civil engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for P.Eng. with APEGS (Saskatchewan).
  • 5–10+ years of progressive engineering experience, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Experience in design, analysis, assessment or rehabilitation of reinforced concrete and steel structures.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.

  • Review engineering documents to ensure scope, codes, standards and company requirements are met.
  • Perform, analyze and verify manual calculations and FEA models.
  • Prepare, review and sign off on procedures, reports, drawings, calculations and FEA models.
  • Develop repair recommendations and create design sketches for field use.
  • Witness and document on-site testing and field-based activities as required.
  • Define project scope, schedule, budget and technical questions with the Project Delivery team.
  • Provide final approval on project documentation and support quality and integrity of deliverables.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and drafting technologists.
  • Promote safe work practices and a strong safety culture across project teams.

Kova has identified a need for a Senior Engineer to be based in the Saskatoon, SK office, supporting a range of engineering assignments and helping strengthen technical leadership across project teams.

About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, this role is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and other technical deliverables in accordance with company standards and professional engineering practices. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned projects from concept through completion, providing technical oversight, reviewing and approving engineering work, and ensuring the quality and integrity of project deliverables. This individual will also provide professional guidance and mentorship to Junior and Intermediate Engineers and Drafting Technologists, supporting their ongoing technical development.

What You’ll Do
  • Review engineering documents, drawings, calculations, and technical deliverables to ensure they meet project scope, applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company requirements.
  • Perform, analyze, interpret, and verify manual calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) models.
  • Prepare, review, and sign off on engineering procedures, reports, confirmed drawings, calculations, and FEA models.
  • Formulate and document repair recommendations, including design sketches developed in the field.
  • Witness and document on-site testing and support field-based engineering activities as required.
  • Work with the Project Delivery team to define and control project scope, schedule, budget, technical questions, comments, and issues.
  • Provide final approval on project documentation and support the quality and integrity of technical deliverables.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers and drafting technologists.
  • Demonstrate leadership in promoting safe work practices and a strong safety culture across project teams.
What You’ll Bring
  • Ideally 5-10+ years of progressive engineering experience, preferably within a consulting engineering or project-based environment.
  • Strong preference for structural engineering experience, including the design, analysis, assessment, or rehabilitation of reinforced concrete and steel structures within industrial, commercial, or infrastructure environments; other relevant engineering disciplines and experience will be considered.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, technical drawings, specifications, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound engineering judgment, manage assignments independently with appropriate supervision, and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Experience supporting engineering projects through various phases, including client communication, scheduling, budgeting, and project delivery.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency using Microsoft Office and FEA software.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, structural, civil, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or eligible for registration with APEGS if currently registered outside of Saskatchewan.
  • APEGS Permission to Consult would be considered an asset.
