Role Overview

You will play an important role in :

  • Reviewing, challenging, and validating assumptions and results from long-term wholesale energy price forecasts from consultants to support strategic investment decisions.
  • Developing internal price forecasting capabilities for short-term (1-24 months) and long-term (25+ years) energy markets, including congestion, capacity, ancillary services, and renewable attributes.
  • Conducting power flow modeling to analyze transmission constraints and grid reliability for both operational and planning scenarios.
  • Developing tools and models to streamline data collection, management, and reporting for large datasets and market modeling results.
  • Manipulating energy price forecasts to incorporate generation profiles, price basis, curtailments, and peak pricing types.
  • Collaborating on wholesale market risk analysis, considering regulatory, policy, technical, and other risks affecting portfolio value and revenues.
  • Assisting greenfield development teams in analyzing new site locations for merchant revenue potential, congestion, curtailment, and deliverability.
  • Providing economic analysis and guidance to development, M&A, asset management, and finance teams.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of direct experience in electricity market modeling and analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, economics, finance, mathematics, physics, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Knowledge of North American wholesale and natural gas markets, ISO / RTO market rules, tariffs, protocols, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in production cost modeling software such as PROMOD, PLEXOS, UPLAN, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, SQL, or MATLAB.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
