Job description

Schneider Electric's Solar & Storage team is seeking a highly motivated Power Electronics and Controls Specialist with strong expertise in the development of solar, battery energy storage, EV charging, and grid-interactive power conversion systems.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the architecture, design, control, validation, certification, and industrialization of next-generation energy products. This individual will lead the development of advanced power electronics hardware and controls, conduct system-level trade-off studies, support certification and compliance activities, and drive products from concept through production.

We are looking for a positive, confident, self-motivated, and hands-on engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about renewable energy technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to world-class products that accelerate the adoption of distributed energy resources and intelligent energy management solutions.

If you are passionate about power electronics, digital controls, renewable energy, energy storage, and building innovative products that positively impact the energy transition, this position is for you.

What you'll be doing
  • Lead the design and development of power converter hardware for solar, battery energy storage, EV charging, and microgrid applications.
  • Evaluate and perform trade‑off studies among various power conversion topologies and system architectures.
  • Develop mathematical models, simulations, and control algorithms for power converters.
  • Design, implement, and validate advanced digital control firmware for power conversion systems.
  • Lead rapid product development activities from concept through prototyping, verification, validation, certification, and production release.
  • Perform hands‑on debugging, testing, characterization, and optimization of power electronics hardware.
  • Design and validate high‑power and low‑voltage control electronics including schematic capture, PCB design reviews, hardware bring‑up, and troubleshooting.
  • Drive EMI/EMC compliance activities including design reviews, mitigation techniques, troubleshooting, and regulatory certification support.
  • Develop and validate thermal models, thermal derating strategies, cooling solutions, and performance improvements for high‑power converters.
  • Work closely with Mechanical and Thermal Engineering teams to optimize product packaging, cooling architecture, reliability, manufacturability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support compliance validation and certification activities including UL1741, UL1741SB, IEEE 1547, CSA, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Lead abnormal operation and fault‑testing activities, including UL1741 abnormal tests, grid support functions, ride‑through testing, and protection verification.
  • Develop and validate protection schemes for power converters, battery systems, and energy management systems.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Test (DFT), and product industrialization activities.
  • Participate in root‑cause investigations, technical risk assessments, FMEA activities, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current with emerging power semiconductor technologies, converter topologies, controls techniques, and energy storage trends to guide future product development.
  • Collaborate closely with systems, firmware, manufacturing, testing, quality, sourcing, certification, thermal, and mechanical engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
What you bring
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Controls Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant industry experience; or PhD with 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong background in power electronics and digital control systems.
  • Experience developing commercial power electronic products from concept through certification and production release.
  • Experience in both hardware design and control firmware development.
  • Deep understanding of power electronics topologies and digital control techniques.
  • Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools, including MATLAB/Simulink and related engineering analysis tools.
  • Experience with power electronics hardware development, including schematic design, PCB development, hardware validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC design practices and compliance testing.
You might also have
  • Experience developing solar, energy storage, EV charging, UPS, renewable energy, or grid-interactive power conversion products.
  • Experience supporting product certification activities and industry standards (UL1741, IEEE 1547, CSA, or similar).
  • Experience developing thermal solutions and reliability improvements for high‑power electronic systems.
  • Experience supporting product industrialization activities, including DFM, DFA, and DFT.
