Position Description

You will be responsible for designing and deploying high-quality, cost-effective products, developing innovative solutions that meet specifications and customer demands. This includes generating initial ideas, developing electrical hardware and components, formulating test strategies, assessing performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, with an emphasis on scalability and long-term relevance.
- Oversees the design of electronic power/control circuits, selecting components for cost-efficiency and reliability to meet standards and requirements.
- Manages and updates Bills of Materials (BoMs), component details, schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layouts, and component databases.
- Uses CAD software, especially Altium, for designing, simulating, and verifying electronic components and databases.
- Facilitates the transition of designs to manufacturing (NPI).
- Identifies, evaluates, and approves alternative or replacement components.
- Refines and pioneers designs according to RAD guidelines and standards.
- Prepares design criteria, project outlines, and testing documentation.
- Designs or constructs testing equipment, including Automated Test Equipment (ATE).
- Assembles, tests, and refines prototypes, including conducting Accelerated Life Tests (ALT).
- Develops and assesses testing strategies and results.
- Addresses compliance challenges related to CE, CSA, FCC, and other safety and EMC standards.
- Performs feasibility studies, cost assessments, and simulations to evaluate technical and financial viability.
- Considers Design for Manufacturability (DFM) to produce high-yield, reliable mass-produced products.
- Develops tolerance analyses to ensure efficient production and reliable operation under various conditions.
- Participates in or reflects on Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Evaluates design options using analytical or simulation methods to meet performance, dependability, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including Mechanical, Sales, and Marketing, to innovate and address customer needs.
- Coordinates with external stakeholders like suppliers and consultants to improve designs and resolve challenges.
- Participates in failure assessments of returned and production-line products.
- Supports innovation of new designs while maintaining existing projects.
- Adheres to the Product Development Process and oversees project initiatives.
Experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in electronics design and PCB layout.
- 3+ years of senior-level experience in similar roles.
- Must have experience with power engineering or motor design.
- Manufacturing experience is a plus.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of power electronics, motor controls, PCB design, and EMC principles. Knowledge of Heat Transfer and Thermal Dynamics is a bonus.
- Experience with CAD tools like Altium Designer, LTspice, Matlab, Simulink, PSIM, and SolidWorks is beneficial.
- Experience in mixed circuit development.
- Understanding of Mechanical, Firmware, and Software related to electronic design.
- Proficient troubleshooting skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and microcontroller debuggers.
- Knowledge of electronics manufacturing techniques and their constraints.
- Familiarity with DFM and DFT protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
- Strong problem-solving skills and rapid conceptualization abilities.
- Detail-oriented, systematic, and eager to learn.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines and budgets.
- Knowledge of manufacturing documentation processes, including PLM, Change Management, and ERP systems.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field.
- Eligibility for professional engineering registration is a plus.
