The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, prototyping, characterizing and validating measuring and control systems, as well as their respective associated manufacturing processes.

The successful candidate will participate in all phases of design projects including requirements decomposition, design preparations, supporting analysis, parts selection and specification, engineering execution, verifications and validations.

This role is also responsible for liaison with internal and external partner design teams to ensure effective and efficient concurrent design, that organically integrates all elements of the point of care blood analysis system, including chemical sensors, fluidic system and the measuring instrument.

Responsibilities

• Lead the hardware electronics design, implementation, prototyping, and characterization of instrument- and equipment-related projects
• Build and test prototypes following design for manufacturing and assembly (DfM/A) rules.
• Investigate and troubleshoot technical related problems.
• Participate in construction of the design history file and device master record.
• Contribute to design and documentation reviews
• Maintain and organize all project-related documentation
• Work within a project team environment and coordinate work with other project disciplines
• Interpret and translate engineering product documentation (i.e. schematics, layouts, drawings, engineering BOMs, etc) into manufacturing documentation and work instructions for efficient and repeatable manufacturing and assembly.
• Work independently and make technical decisions
• Draft and execute study plans, verification/validation protocols and drive the release of the corresponding reports.
• Assist in the preparation of 510k and/or other regulatory applications.

• Be able to proactively synthesize a vision, direction and framework for the development of the electronics hardware in the context of product evolution.
• Be able to rapidly switch contexts between high and low level issues as well multiple low level issues.
• Be able to appreciate issues and provide contributions to solve issues faced by staff in allied technology domains.
• Integrate within a highly multidisciplinary/multi-domain team in charge of developing and validating a point of care system for blood analysis. Manage assigned tasks in an extremely interfaced team on tight deadlines.
• Conceive, design, implement, test and validate the electronics hardware.
• Strong written communication skills for the creation of circuit descriptions, test plans and reports, R&D studies.
• Attention to detail while maintaining the ability to multi-task and manage project timelines.
• Commitment to effectively manage change and shift priorities as opportunities or issues arise.
• Integrity, professionalism and overall commitment to excellence are paramount.
• A sense of urgency and results orientation with a dedicated focus toward validation of the product design and associated manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. or M.Sc in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with over 10 years hands-on experience in prototyping, testing and debugging electrical circuits
• Strong self-discipline to work through all the details necessary to ensure a successful product design.
• Strong circuit analysis skills with corresponding mathematics knowledge.
• Strong analogue circuit design with experience in low noise, low power and very low signal level signal processing.
• Strong opamp knowledge including active filters and transimpedance amplifiers.
• Experience with precision analogue to digital converters (e.g. 24 bit sigma delta).
• Experience with the design of switching and linear power supply circuits.
• Strong simulation skills in LTSPICE.
• Strong Altium skills for design capture and PCB layout of low noise, precision circuitry.
• Experience with designing for product robustness against ESD and fast transient electrical spikes.
• Experience with battery powered systems. Li-Ion knowledge a plus.
• Experience with designing for and resolving EMC issues including radiated and conducted susceptibility and emissions.
• Experience with and having taken a product from design through to production is a significant asset.
• Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to relate to and effectively communicate with people in allied technology areas, senior management, and co-workers with varying levels of experience.

• Strong proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools, preferably Altium.
