Job summary

Babcock Canada is seeking a Waterfront Engineering Senior Electrical Engineer in Victoria, BC to lead electrical engineering efforts for naval systems. The role emphasizes submarine-related design, maintenance, and risk mitigation within a defence-focused environment.

The ideal candidate holds a Canadian-licensed P.Eng and 8+ years of electrical engineering experience, including submarine work. The position offers a collaborative team, growth opportunities, and a competitive total compensation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering; licensed to practice in Canada as a Professional Engineer.
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience (naval industry considered an asset).
  • 3+ years of submarine-specific experience (asset).
  • Experience in design and maintenance of platform electrical systems (power, distribution, controls, instrumentation, motors, generators, propulsion).
  • Experience in design and maintenance of combat electrical systems (radar, sonar, communications).
  • Experience providing professional oversight and mentorship within a technical team.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including reporting and presentations.
  • Eligible for Canadian Secret Security and ITAR clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Waterfront Engineering Marine Systems - Electrical Team Lead and contribute to delivering technical deliverables.
  • Prepare and approve deviations and waivers for submarine electrical equipment.
  • Draft, review, and approve repair specifications for submarine maintenance activities.
  • Draft, review, and approve electrical engineering policies, procedures and internal standards.
  • Provide mentoring and professional oversight for a team of engineers and technologists.
  • Assess, document, and communicate risks related to submarine engineering systems to internal and external customers.
  • Be responsive to Project Managers for dynamic program delivery in a shipyard waterfront setting.
  • Authorize and evaluate Test Forms as part of Joint Test Group on behalf of Engineering.
  • Act as System Group Coordinator and System Lead for complex fault diagnosis and system operations; identify risks and mitigations.

Expected Salary $86,879 to $115,838

To determine final salary, Babcock considers a variety of factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience and internal equity. The final base salary offer is at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

In this role, you will:
  • Report directly to the Waterfront Engineering Marine Systems - Electrical Team Lead and contribute to the successful delivery of technical deliverables;

  • Draft, review, and approve (when delegated) electrical engineering policies, procedures and internal standards;
  • Provide mentoring and professional oversight for a team of engineers and technologists;
  • Assess, document, and communicate risks associated with submarine engineering systems to both internal and external customers;
  • Be responsive to Project Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment;
  • Authorize and evaluate Test Forms as part of Joint Test Group on behalf of Engineering;
  • Act as the System Group Coordinator and System Lead to provide oversight on complex fault diagnosis activities and system operations; and
  • Identify risks, impacts, mitigations, and opportunities
  • Conduct other duties as necessary or as reasonably assigned from time to time
The ideal candidate brings:
  • A Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering, licensed to practice in Canada as a Professional Engineer;
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience (naval industry considered an asset);
  • 3+ years of submarine specific experience (considered an asset);
  • Experience in design and maintenance of platform electrical systems such as power and distribution, control and instrumentation, motors, generators and propulsion
  • Experience in design and maintenance of combat electrical systems such as radar, sonar and communications
  • Experience providing professional oversight and mentorship within a technical team; and
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including writing formal reports, and making presentations
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
