Job description

AECOM Buildings Place is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to lead buildings projects, including commercial, institutional, light industrial facilities such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations. This position can be based out of the Ottawa office with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth.

AECOM Buildings Places Canada (BP Canada) is a vibrant and growing team spanning architecture, all building engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics, and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, but are not limited to, municipal, commercial, institutional projects, justice, education, and government sectors.

Major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing and leading detailed electrical design and analysis across various infrastructure sectors.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical specifications, reports, calculations, and construction drawings.
  • Proposing design approaches and solving advanced engineering problems using in-depth knowledge and experience.
  • Identifying discrepancies and developing corrective strategies proactively.
  • Leading and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure design integration and quality delivery.
  • Conducting field investigations, condition assessments, and providing construction-phase support.
  • Managing project portions, including budget, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineers, EITs, and technicians.
  • Contributing to project planning, proposal writing, and client interactions.
  • Maintaining knowledge of evolving technologies, codes, and practices to support technical leadership.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, with at least six (6) years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation in Ontario, in good standing.
  • Ability to obtain secret level security clearance or holding an active clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, including leadership in design delivery.
  • Experience with IPD (Integrated Project Delivery).
  • Proven experience in Water & Wastewater, Transportation, Buildings, and Sustainability sectors.
  • Advanced proficiency in design and analysis software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, SKM.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and client communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex technical tasks independently and mentor others.
  • Experience delivering projects from concept through construction support phases.
  • Ability to lead QA/QC reviews and enforce quality standards.
