Job summary

Hatch in Saskatoon is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to lead a team delivering electrical design for mining, energy and infrastructure projects from feasibility through detail design.

You will coordinate with electrical and project managers, produce 3D models, review designs for quality, and ensure compliance with IEEE/CSA/CEC standards while mentoring junior designers.

Qualifications

We are seeking for a dynamic individual to join our Control, Automation and Electrical team who is interested in tackling challenging projects and assignments. TheElectrical Designerwill be responsible for supervising a team of electrical designers and assisting in the development and production of deliverables required for Mining, Energy and Infrastructure projects from Feasibility studies to Detail design. The Senior Electrical Designer will also assist in the resolution of all technical design issues and direct the activities of other designers in the team to meet project schedule objectives.

Responsibilities:

• Adhere to and promote the Hatch corporate safety culture.
• Manage the schedule for a team of designers on project or program including multidiscipline interactions.
• Coordinate work with the lead electrical engineer, project and engineering managers including taking responsibility for timely release of team deliverables.
• Supervise, review, check and be responsible for quality of electrical designs performed by others in the design team.
• Prioritize project or program discipline actions for the purpose of achieving deliverable quality and adherence to schedule.
• Prepare design concepts for internal and client reviews in collaboration with engineering team.
• Produce detailed engineering design drawings and documentation for approved concepts/projects.
• Perform 3D model clash detection and coordinate electrical design with other disciplines.
• Assist in the preparation of project specific procedures (symbols, cell libraries, borders etc).
• Perform complex plant layout and electrical systems using 3D design modeling tools.
• Contribute to the development of different multidisciplinary design solutions and mentor other designers. Provide guidance on Hatch quality standards.
• Lead formal electrical design reviews and supervise the work of electrical designers.
• Develop 3D model for electrical equipment, underground ducts and cable trays.
• Responsible for electrical design work related to quantity estimation effort on project or program including direct quantity (MTO) take-off from a 3D model, 2D drawings, sketches and historical data.
• Assist with voltage drop, cable fill, underground duct calculations.
• Verify on-site condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities.
• Resolve electrical design issues throughout project lifecycle as required.
• Apply industry best practices and applicable codes and standards (IEEE, CSA, NEC, CEC, IEC, etc).
• Participate in the selection of electrical design candidates as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Electrical engineering diploma from a recognized college
• Minimum of 7+ years electrical design experience
• Experience within a large-projects such as mining, power, petrochemical and refinery industries, in multi-disciplinary EPCM environment.
• Ability to design in a 3D environment
• Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
• Understanding of other discipline requirements
• Sound knowledge of designing electrical systems and workflows for electrical systems.
• Proficient in the use of MicroStation or AutoCAD, MicroStation PSDS and/or OpenPlant.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Site experience in walk-downs, field measurements and commissioning.

Preferred

• Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist or looking to attain certification
• Experience with Bentley BRCM
• Experience within a large project, multidisciplinary EPCM environment.
