Our Ideal Candidate

Due to project activity and staff progression, we are seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join our team in Calgary, supporting projects throughout British Columbia and Alberta. This position requires autonomy and outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. You will be responsible for developing electrical power and instrumentation & control systems and performing a variety of functions including field audits, plant design, preliminary calculations, 2D/3D modelling and detailed design drawings.

A Day in the Life

The candidate is expected to require minimum supervision with the ability to make sound decisions for the work being assigned. You will perform defined assignments with independent judgment and a high degree of accuracy while maintaining the consistency of drawings with other departments. Common deliverables include single-lines, equipment lists, grounding and lighting layouts, hazardous area classifications, schematic and interconnection diagrams, cable tray and equipment layouts, cable schedules, cable block diagrams, loop sheets and panel layouts. Additionally, you will ensure that Allnorth’s QA/QC standards are met in order to produce consistent and high quality deliverables for our clients. You will be capable of leading a group of designers or working with a multidisciplinary design team to ensure projects are completed within allotted schedules and budgets, and to high quality standards.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Engineering Technology Diploma in Electrical Power and Industrial Controls;
  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in industrial plant design; experience in an industrial design and construction environment with experience as team lead;
  • Construction support experience is an asset;
  • Knowledgeable with the Canadian Electrical Code. Experience and knowledge with National Electrical Code is an asset;
  • Proficient in Schematic Design (AutoCAD). 2D/3D Design (AutoPLANT, Plant 3D) is a benefit;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Technical competence, attention to detail and strong QA/QC skillset;
  • Experience in the Pulp & Paper industry is an asset.
