We are seeking an experienced Senior Electric Study Engineer to lead and support power system planning, connection impact assessments, and substation design studies. This role involves advanced power system modeling, distribution planning, and network analysis using PSSE, PSCAD, CYME, and GIS. The candidate will also develop and manage database systems and automation tools using Python, Visual Basic (VB), and SQL to enhance study efficiency. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in power systems, electrical network analysis, and regulatory requirements.
This role will be based in Vancouver, BC.
Your role within the team:
- Lead and conduct load flow, short-circuit, transient stability, and EMT (Electromagnetic Transients) studies using PSSE and PSCAD.
- Perform connection impact assessments (CIA) for renewable and conventional power generation projects, including transmission and distribution network integration.
- Oversee distribution system planning, including load forecasting, network reinforcement, and DER (Distributed Energy Resource) integration.
- Develop, validate, and optimize power system models in PSSE, PSCAD, CYME, and GIS.
- Automate simulation and analysis processes using Python, MATLAB, and Visual Basic (VB).
- Design and maintain database systems (SQL, MS Access, PostgreSQL) for organizing large datasets related to system studies.
- Support the design and optimization of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substations.
The ideal candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in power system analysis, planning, or related engineering roles.
- Strong expertise in PSSE, PSCAD, CYME, and GIS software for power system modeling and analysis.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and Visual Basic (VB) for automation and scripting.
- Experience with database management (SQL, MS Access, PostgreSQL) for power system data analysis.
- Deep understanding of load flow, transient stability, electromagnetic transients (EMT), and protection coordination studies.
- Familiarity with substation design, HV equipment specifications, and grounding studies.
