Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Ecologist who has the ability to perform various ecological and environmental services. The candidate will be required to manage projects, prepare reports, coordinate field work, and provide their knowledge and experience to provide in-depth consulting services across several different client groups, from individual landowners to Architects, Engineering and Construction firms, larger utility clients, and municipalities. The ability to communicate clearly and professionally through face-to-face meetings, email correspondence, technical report writing and detailed field assessments will be vital towards the success of DRG’s operations.

Job Duties
  • Travel to various locations within a specified region providing environmental consulting services.
  • Completing or Supervising Environmental Monitoring Field Work.
  • Providing Erosion and Sediment Control Planning.
  • Conducting and Writing Environmental Impact Statements.
  • Performing Natural Heritage Assessments/Natural Heritage Evaluations.
  • Environmental Planning for Land Developments.
  • Preparing Environmental reports for permitting.
  • Drafting Ecological Restoration Plans.
  • Writing formal reports on findings in the field.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ Industry experience related to ecology, urban ecosystems, natural asset management and/or environmental science.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP), additional credentials such as Ecological Land Classification, Ontario Wetland Evaluation System, and Butternut Health Assessment are a plus.
  • Well-developed skills in identifying vascular plants of all types.
  • Registered Professional Forester or ISA certification.
  • Strong Tree Identification skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and development planning is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.
  • Proficiency with MS Office is necessary.
  • Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and field GPS equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar computer drafting programs is a plus.
