JOB SUMMARY

The Drafting Supervisor is responsible for working closely with the Senior Drafting Manager – East/West for overseeing the drafting process, ensuring quality work is delivered within set timelines and budgets. They will lead a team of drafters, providing guidance and direction on project requirements, design standards and technical specifications. Is the ‘go to’ person on the management of day to day projects and helps drive performance improvement by mentoring and coaching others.

DIRECT AND/OR INDIRECT REPORTS

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

Management/Supervision/Leadership
  1. Provide direction and support to the Project Management team ensuring key deliverables are achieved within the required timelines.
  2. Engage, motivate and give positive praise and recognition and establish a culture of inclusivity and respect.
  3. Provides mentoring support and guidance to junior members of the team, developing their knowledge and understanding.
  4. Schedules and assigns the workload of others ensuring project deliverables are achieved reporting any performance concerns or issues to the Senior Drafting Manager East/West.
Health and Safety
  1. Creates and influences the safety culture by leading by example as a mentor and model.
  2. Promotes safe working practices and demonstrates compliance with legislation.
  3. Address safety issues and concerns promptly ensuring employees follow policies and procedures.
  4. Reports any known workplace hazards or violations of the Act to the Senior Drafting Manager East/West.
Technical/Function
  1. Clarifies roles and responsibilities within the team to ensure all drafting accountabilities are understood by all and resources are allocated accordingly.
  2. Oversees the Document and Project Review Processes for Shop Drawings and facilitates team progress with assigned tasks.
  3. Provides comments to Architectural Drawing Review within specified timescales.
  4. Review architectural page turner and shop drawings page turner.
  5. Plan, oversee and execute drafting projects, including managing timelines, and resources.
  6. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes and standards.
  7. Review and approve all drafted plans and designs at each stage of the process and ensure these are to the required standards/technical specifications. Address any concerns or issues promptly.
  8. Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration and understanding of requirements, milestones, deadlines, etc.
  9. Provide input and recommendations on project/drafting scope and feasibility.
  10. Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement of drafting processes and systems.
  11. Stay up to date with industry trends, software, and technologies proposing new ideas and concepts with the aim of driving departmental performance and standards of improvement.
  12. Chair and participate in drafting meetings ensuring project deliverables and milestones are closely monitored and obstacles/issues addressed promptly.
  13. Provide expert advice and guidance on drafting principles and be the ‘go to’ expert in this field.
  14. Build strong relations with internal and external clients, customers, contractors, architects, etc by working collaboratively.
Internal/External Customer Service
  1. Work closely with key departments (e.g. Project Management Team) to ensure projects are delivered on time.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or a related field.

EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum of 5 years of drafting experience, including.
  2. Window-wall and Unitized wall experience is a strong asset.
  3. Proficiency in drafting software: Strong ability to work with AutoCAD and Revit and ability to read blueprints.

SKILLS

  1. Excellent communicator verbally and in written form.
  2. High level of attention to detail/detail orientated.
  3. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills (ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously).
  4. Familiarity with relevant regulations, codes and standards.
  5. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  6. Strong Technical skills.
  7. Team player and mentor.
  8. Ability to work independently as well as a team member.
  9. Physical Demands: This job may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and working on a computer. Some travel may be required to visit job sites or attend meetings.
