Job summary

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Senior Discovery Scientist to join our dynamic Innovation division. You will build, lead, and maintain an independent research program focused on transfusion science, cellular therapies and related priorities.

You will acquire funding, publish in peer-reviewed journals, mentor graduate students and research fellows, and collaborate across academia, industry and blood operator sectors.

Qualifications

• PhD, MD, or MD/PhD from a recognized institution.
• Demonstrated ability to design and conduct independent research.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication; public-speaking skills an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery research programs advancing transfusion science and operational priorities.
• Develop rigorous study designs and translate findings into evidence-based recommendations.
• Secure external grant funding (Tri-agency or equivalent) and manage budgets.
• Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
• Recruit, supervise and mentor research staff and trainees.
• Collaborate with academia, industry and partner institutions.
