Job description

Objective :

To provide visionary institutional leadership, developing and driving the mission, strategies and advancement of the OFIFC’s Original People’s Learning Centre (OPLC), obtaining and maintaining accreditation for the institution.

  • Defined strategic vision, mandate and direction for the OPLC to deliver instructional design, training and education to OFIFC’s programs, internal staff, the urban indigenous community, and non-indigenous peoples across Ontario.
  • Growth of the OPLC by identifying and capturing opportunities to advance and deliver on that vision, mandate and direction.
  • Promoted, protected and enhanced the reputation of the OPLC

Key Responsibilities :

Strategic Leadership (35%) :

  • Defines a compelling strategic vision, mandate and direction for the OPLC, and identifies a clear path to advance and deliver on that vision, mandate and direction;
  • Works with the OPLC Founding Council and OFIFC Board of Directors collaboratively and with influence to :
  • Lead the setting of goals and the determination of priorities and allocation of resources to meet this mandate;

  • Obtain and maintain accreditation; and
  • Define the OPLC’s market brand and niche, positioning the OPLC as the best choice education option.
  • Champions the OPLC’s initiatives and impact, innovates OPLC content and distributes into new markets or through new channels, and develops diversified funding and income streams to ensure the long-term growth and viability of the OPLC.
  • Leads the creation, implementation, and compliance with OPLC strategic and policy frameworks
  • Creates, communicates, protects and enhances the overall brand and reputation of OPLC, establishing strong strategic partnerships.
  • Administrative Leadership & Internal Engagement (35%) :

  • Oversees the executive team in the effective and responsible operation of the OPLC and the use of OPLC resources, focusing on operational excellence and impact on outcomes for the urban indigenous community;
  • Provides direction and incentives for research, creative achievement, service and outreach;
  • Determines the right organizational structure and oversees sustainable scaling of the workforce as the OPLC is established and grows it’s operations.
  • Fosters a culture that attracts, develops, and retains excellent and diverse faculty, administrators, students and staff to ensure student success, growing enrollment and high rates of graduation;
  • Developing and maintaining an appropriate administrative organization to ensure effective and efficient management of the OPLC and its resources;
  • External Engagement (30%) :

  • Establishes and enhances collaborations by making connections between academic programs, research, industry and the community at large;
  • Ensures the OPLC delivers the education and skills demanded by the economy to drive positive outcomes for the urban indigenous community by engaging with businesses, industry, and government across the Province.
  • Advocates to, has contact with, and / or participation in various orders of government and with councils and organizations involved in higher education at the provincial, national, and international levels

  • Demonstrated leadership of a complex and comprehensive higher education institute or equivalent experience in managing and reviewing the work of educators and academics
  • Ability to observe, anticipate and act on trends in post-secondary education
  • Ability to define, assess and develop the competencies and capabilities required in education, research and anti-indigenous racism work.
  • Knowledge of Ontario not-for-profit Governance, Board, Bylaws, relevant legislation
  • Understanding of Public Policy as it relates to urban Indigenous issues
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of internal and external constituencies
  • Education / Work Experience :

  • Completed PhD degree in education or other relevant discipline and / or equivalent professional experience
  • 5-7 years’ experience at a Senior Management level in higher education
  • Experience establishing, building or growing an academic program or institution, preferably within an Indigenous context

  • Full Pay Range : $144,000 - $176,000
