JFK Law LLP is a mid-sized law firm focused on delivering high quality legal services to Indigenous people, communities, and organizations. We have offices in Victoria, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, and serve clients across Canada.

Job Summary: - The Senior Director of Finance, a senior-level leadership role, will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the firm. This includes managing the finance department, developing and implementing financial strategies, ensuring compliance, and reporting on the organization's financial performance. The Senior Director of Finance will report to the COO and will collaborate with the firm’s leadership team, and other senior management to drive financial success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning and Budgeting:

Developing and managing the organization's financial plans and budgets, including capital budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:

Preparing and analyzing financial statements, reports, and other financial data to provide insights for decision-making.

  • Financial Management and Control:

Overseeing cash flow, accounts payable and receivable, and other financial operations.

  • Audit and Compliance: Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:

Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls.

  • Team Leadership and Development:

Mentoring, training and supervising the finance team.

  • Strategic Financial Planning:

Contributing to the development of strategic financial plans and objectives.

  • Relationship Management:

Working with other departments, senior management, and external stakeholders.

Key Characteristics:

  • Strong Leadership and Management Skills:

Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of experienced finance professionals.

  • Expertise / Professional designation in Finance and Accounting:

Deep understanding of accounting principles as applicable to legal services delivery in Canada, financial reporting standards, and related regulations.

Understanding Quebec Financial Reporting and Statutory requirements will be an asset

  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and develop solutions to financial challenges.

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

Ability to communicate financial information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strategic Thinking and Foresight:

Ability to anticipate future financial needs and challenges and develop proactive strategies.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, CGA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.

Compensation: $180,000 -$200,000 per annum and comes with a competitive extended health benefit package and 4 weeks’ vacation. This role is hybrid with a minimum of three days per week in the Victoria, Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal office. Some travel to other offices may be required.
