What you will do?

The Senior Director – Insurance Finance, Reporting and Controls, is responsible for the full cycle of reporting in the insurance business. This includes the month-end close processes, regulatory and statutory reporting, and associated controls, governance, and process improvements. The role ensures systems and processes produce complete, accurate, and timely results, meeting all downstream reporting requirements, including regulatory and board-related needs. The Senior Director also oversees the effectiveness of controls such as key controls, SOX controls, and GL attestation processes, and acts as a liaison with internal and external audit teams. Additionally, the incumbent will oversee the investment accounting and reporting team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the month-end close process using RISE (Aptitude sub-ledger) and EPM (Bank general ledger), ensuring data completeness, accuracy, and timely reporting.
  2. Coordinate journal entries and other inputs into the month-end process.
  3. Review and oversee regulatory, statutory, and board reporting under IFRS 17.
  4. Maintain a strong control environment aligned with RBC policies, including SOX and GL Attestation processes. Report on Operation Risk Events (OREs), Self-Identified Issues, SUMs, and other control issues.
  5. Ensure accurate reporting of investment activities and support new initiatives.
  6. Identify issues and propose solutions to drive change, with innovative options aligned with business strategies.
  7. Promote best practices, automation, process improvements, and enhance the control environment.
  8. Implement and sustain best practices, synergies, and cost-saving opportunities, leveraging corporate finance resources and processes.
  9. Foster collaboration across teams such as GRMI, Head Office Finance, and business partners.
  10. Represent the VP and CFO Insurance in senior meetings and key projects as required.

What you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA) and postgraduate business degree.
  • 10+ years of experience in Financial Services, including 5+ years in People Management.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS 17 policies and reporting processes.
  • Experience with legal entity and regulatory reporting, including interactions with regulators.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to influence and impact without direct authority.
  • Experience with forecasting, large initiative coordination, and meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and products.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with board presentations and meetings.
