Nova Scotia Power is seeking a Senior Director Human Resources to lead our team of dedicated HR professionals in the delivery of innovative recruiting, employee relations, development and retention strategies, to prepare our workforce for today and the future.

Reporting to the VP Human Resources, as Senior Director Human Resources, you will be a key part of our success by aligning operational deliverables to our overarching strategy for talent acquisition, labour relations, employee engagement, employee development, performance management, succession planning, and leadership development. You are a collaborative leader, able to lead a team in the planning and execution of client centred services. This is supported by a business mindset, allowing you to develop and deliver practical data driven HR solutions.


Key elements of this role include:

  • Lead a team of HR professionals in the delivery of client centred HR services across our business.
  • Work with the VP Human Resources to develop the talent strategy across the organization.
  • Develop and oversee recruiting strategies, including development of a community engagement plan and creation of talent pipelines to attract, hire, and retain top talent.
  • Lead the delivery of employee development strategies to address internal talent gaps for effective succession planning.
  • Direct the delivery of annual performance appraisal processes across the business to drive employee engagement and retention.
  • Develop and oversee the delivery of an equity, diversity and inclusion strategy across the business.
  • Oversee employee and labour relations, including developing a bargaining mandate, appointing and supporting the Chief Negotiator through collective bargaining, building a positive working relationship between leaders and employees.
  • Support the development and delivery of workplans across the business in response to employee engagement survey trends and opportunities.
  • Utilise data driven insights to measure the effectiveness of HR initiatives and adjust service delivery as required.

  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, psychology, human resources, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment in a public facing operation.
  • An outstanding collaborator and team player that excels at creating practical solutions with the needs of different stakeholders in mind.
  • Exceptional communication skills to connect impactfully with diverse teams and at different levels within the organization.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders to create and implement a compelling strategic vision.
  • Previous experience driving successful business change initiatives through influence and inspiring successful adoption of new processes and strategies.
  • Proactive approach to addressing challenges with a strong ability to analyze information, assess risk and make decisions.
  • You operate with integrity, authenticity and consider diversity, equity and inclusion in all actions and interactions.
