Purpose of Job

The Senior Director, Engineering, is part of the senior team enabling EQ Bank’s Challenger Bank aspirations using cloud-native technologies and modern delivery methodologies. You will manage multiple cross-functional teams dedicated to launching new products and features, delivering ongoing business value.

You will evolve our API and microservice architecture, web channels, and back-end systems using Cloud, DevOps, API, and PaaS services, delivering dozens of releases per month. You will lead strategic planning, manage a team of over 50 resources, and participate in executive conversations about technology transformation.

Reporting to the VP of Technology, you will oversee the delivery and support of Technology for the Digital Banking portfolio, including EQ Bank, Digital Payments, and Open API products. Your responsibilities include strategic planning, team management, budgeting, vendor relations, and contributing to executive strategies.

You will lead all SDLC areas, including Business Analysis, Solution Architecture, Development, QA, Release Management, and Vendor Management. You will assess new opportunities and partner with various teams across the organization.

You will oversee application maintenance, incident resolution, and ensure applications meet availability and resilience standards. You will also provide practice oversight and continuous improvement for SDLC areas, managing architectural standards and development processes.

This role requires ensuring team productivity, strategic achievement, and compliance with regulatory and governance standards.

Main Activities :

  • Accountability for Application Architecture, Business Analysis, QA, Source Code Management, Development, and Release Management.
  • Manage resource demand, budget, and vendor relationships to align with business priorities.
  • Provide expertise to ensure project scope feasibility and business viability.
  • Recommend new technologies and oversee solution design based on business needs.
  • Ensure cybersecurity standards are met.
  • Estimate and plan deliveries using Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies.
  • Manage releases and technology change processes.
  • Ensure quality and automate testing where possible.
  • Serve as SME for architecture and system functionality.
  • Resolve production incidents.
  • Influence product direction and partner with Business Units on strategic opportunities.
  • Drive a multi-year Technology Roadmap for system health and capacity.
  • Manage vendor sourcing, contracts, and performance.
  • Define and evolve standards, processes, and tools within IT Delivery.

Knowledge / Skill Requirements :

  • Minimum 15+ years of North American experience in senior technology roles leading large teams.
  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong technical background with experience in Software Delivery, IT Strategy, Architecture, DevOps.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Expertise in Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Deep understanding of SDLC, code management, DevOps, and Automated QA.
  • Proven leadership in managing complex projects and teams.
  • Experience in product lifecycle management from development to market fit.
