Senior Director Corporate Maintenance - Canada

Join to apply for the Senior Director Corporate Maintenance - Canada role at GFL Environmental Inc.

As a key leader within the Corporate Fleet Department, this role supports fleet maintenance operations across a significant portion of GFL’s footprint. Working closely with the VP of Corporate Maintenance, the role involves optimizing R&M performance through coaching and advising field teams and managing strategic initiatives as directed by senior management. The primary goal is to ensure GFL Environmental meets service commitments for waste collection and transportation at the lowest cost, adhering to safety and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluate and select equipment for use within GFL Environmental, analyzing operational needs and performance to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations.
  2. Assist in evaluating, setting, and modifying fleet maintenance standards, and ensure effective communication and accountability in field operations.
  3. Monitor KPIs and influence positive outcomes in operational performance and cost management.
  4. Oversee fleet replacement planning, coordinating with regional teams to align with long-term needs, and manage procurement processes.
  5. Manage processes for surplus vehicle and equipment disposal to optimize lifecycle management.
  6. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including EPA and DOT requirements, and promote safety and environmental standards.
  7. Implement and uphold corporate policies on vehicle operation, maintenance, and safety across all sites.
  8. Lead change management initiatives and oversee vendor relationships for fleet R&M.
  9. Provide technical assistance in equipment selection, repairs, budgeting, warranty negotiations, sustainability initiatives, and personnel management.
  10. Coordinate safety procedures and ensure adherence to safety standards at all collection operations.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Machines, Tools, and Equipment:
  • Operate standard office equipment and possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understand maintenance systems and data management practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present information clearly to various audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in fleet management and maintenance, preferably within the waste industry.

Physical and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Work primarily in an office environment with travel required.
  • Moderate noise levels expected.
