RBC is seeking a Senior Director - Chief Developer and AI Adoption to lead a team delivering AI-enabled development at enterprise scale. You will shape strategy, drive productivity and ensure governance across security, data privacy and regulatory requirements.

You will collaborate with business, risk, and IT leaders to embed AI into the operating model, champion developer tooling, and deliver measurable productivity gains.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of experience with Java, .NET, Angular, REST APIs and Spring Framework.
• Experience with distributed cloud platforms (Pivotal Cloud Foundry, OpenShift, Docker).
• Knowledge of security gateways and protocols (JWT, OAuth2, SSL).

What is the opportunity?

As a Senior Director - Chief Developer and AI Adoption, you will lead a team of Technology & Operations AI Developers who build the next-generation technology that changes how millions of people interact with financial information and one another. Our products need to handle information on a massive scale and extend well beyond traditional banking.

The RBC Business Financial Service Technology team offers the opportunity to work within the transformation program to develop innovative ideas and solutions in support of our clients and organization. This executive will establish a modern, secure, scalable, and AI-enabled development organization. The role combines hands‑on technology leadership with enterprise-wide transformation, ensuring that AI and automation deliver measurable improvements while meeting the bank’s standards for security, resilience, regulatory compliance, data protection, and responsible innovation.

The successful candidate will champion developer productivity, modern engineering practices, cloud and platform capabilities, reusable technology services, and the adoption of AI-assisted development tools. They will partner closely with business leaders, risk, compliance, information security, data, operations, and human resources to embed AI into the bank’s operating model.

What will you do?

• Maintaining relationships with clients; communicating with IT and business management. Monitoring prompt response and support for technical issues.
• Lead high performing teams, and ensure high standards and quality of technical work. Directing reviews of tools and technologies for improving performance, reducing costs and time to market.
• Define the bank’s strategy for AI-assisted software development and engineering productivity. Partner with business and functional leaders to identify high-value, practical AI use cases. Build communities of practice, internal learning programs, and technical enablement initiatives for developers and business users.
• Lead the adoption of approved AI coding assistants, code-generation tools, testing tools, documentation solutions, developer copilots, and software delivery automation.
• Ensure AI and software development practices comply with applicable banking regulations, supervisory expectations, internal policies, and contractual obligations.
• Establish appropriate controls for the use of generative AI in development, including secure handling of source code, customer data, confidential information, and intellectual property.
• Develop standards for human review, model evaluation, testing, explainability, auditability, and accountability when AI is used in software development.
• Measure and communicate the impact of AI adoption on productivity, quality, delivery speed, risk, and employee experience.
• Own or contribute to technology investment planning, prioritization, and budget management.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

• 5- 10 years’ experience with Java, .NET, Angular (or relevant frameworks), REST API/Micro services, Spring Framework (MVC, Security, JPA, Boot), Ansi SQL (MySQL or equivalent)
• Experience with distributed cloud (Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Openshift, Docker)
• Experience in designing, developing, testing and troubleshooting code. Experience with security gateways and protocols (JWT, Oauth2.0, SSL Certificates, Azure AD)
• Experience with event driven capabilities like Kafka. Microservices architecture design, development and implementation.
• Experience with secure CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience leveraging Gen-AI capabilities including Claude, CoPilot or others to generate code, data & deliver applications. Experience with responsible AI, model risk management, AI governance, or technology-control frameworks.
• Experience scaling AI coding assistants or AI-enabled developer platforms across a large organization.
• Knowledge of modern AI and machine learning techniques, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, model evaluation, and agentic workflows.
• Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Equivalent.
