Behind the scenes, but ahead of the curve: help us develop the next-generation public broadcaster.

Created in 2015 to align, lighten and modernize infrastructure, the Technology & Infrastructure (T&I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections; between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.

A place with purpose. CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly regarded pioneer of media technology. Not just in Canada, but around the world. Today, we’re transforming ourselves from a conventional radio and television broadcaster into a modern digital media company. Technology is the driving force, and we’re the team making it happen.

This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

This position is based in Montreal.

Your Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Governance & Engineering, you will interact with leadership teams to craft strategies for the areas you oversee, ensuring they align with business objectives and priorities. You will be accountable for bringing technology and real estate initiatives to fruition across the entire organization. You will be responsible for developing a robust, flexible and agile methodology to deliver on these initiatives. You will also play a critical role in ensuring strict budget management as well as optimizing performance, efficiency and quality of service.

As Senior Director, Business Planning and Compliance, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining long-term (3- to 5-year) strategies for managing and implementing both operational and compliance-related projects. More specifically, you will oversee the teams delivering various large-scale initiatives that have a significant long-term impact on the Corporation, ensuring alignment with the strategic priorities of T&I and CBC/Radio-Canada. This role also involves leading the design, implementation and maintenance of a strong compliance program, ensuring adherence to regulations and continuous process optimization. You will serve as a key liaison between different business units, leadership teams and external organizations, fostering smooth communication and informed decision-making.

Your sharp analytical skills and sound judgment will enable you to evaluate complex solutions, formulate insightful recommendations and make decisions that could have long-term repercussions for the future of the component and the Corporation.

Your excellent communication and collaboration skills will be essential for effectively liaising with all stakeholders. You will also be responsible for regularly updating leadership teams on project plans and their progress.

You will also:

  • Establish a robust, relevant management and governance structure for all projects and initiatives, clearly defining roles and responsibilities.
  • Review existing processes, propose improvement recommendations and develop new ones.
  • Maintain a critical mindset and continuously identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the capital budget planning team, business unit leaders and service managers.
  • Ensure that investments and initiatives align with organizational strategy and priorities.
  • Oversee project and initiative budgets and costs, resource allocations as well as reallocations; regularly review their performance.
  • Manage corporate risks, oversee the implementation of audit recommendations and provide your own recommendations.
  • Manage risks and initiative interdependencies, as well as our overall execution capacity.
  • Develop relevant KPIs to make informed decisions that maximize the returns of the two areas under your supervision.
  • Manage and develop skills and capabilities of staff under your responsibility.
  • Engage with cross-functional business leaders to objectively analyze the organization’s ability to absorb change.
  • Communicate the implementation progress of technology initiatives to all business unit stakeholders.
  • Monitor the achievement of key success factors and service quality, taking appropriate corrective action as needed.

What You Bring

  • At least 12 years’ experience in operations and project management.
  • At least seven years’ experience managing teams and personnel.
  • At least five years’ compliance and governance experience.
  • Knowledge of the media industry.
  • Strong financial management skills.
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, promptly respond to numerous urgent requests, cope with frequent interruptions and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to make strategic decisions, especially for high-level planning.
  • Recognized communicator, leader and engager.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and French (spoken and written).
  • Availability for occasional travel across Canada.
