Senior Digital Operations Analyst - Cloud

We are looking for a Senior Cloud and VMware Specialist who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment. As a Senior Digital Operations Analyst, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of all VMware and Azure Local infrastructure across Suncor's Private Cloud. Responsibilities also include Windows/RHEL servers, Azure, and AWS. You will manage server infrastructure, optimize performance, ensure security compliance, and provide technical support to various teams. You will lead initiatives for system upgrades, automation, and troubleshooting complex issues, while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance overall IT operations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Computer Science Degree or Technical Diploma
  • 10+ years IT operations and/or IT project execution experience, including comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of enterprise operations
  • Expert level knowledge of VMware with a strong track record in system administration, performance tuning, security management and scripting and coding
  • General knowledge of Azure Local (Stack), Windows/RHEL server operating systems and storage technology
  • Hands-on experience in provisioning and configuration
  • Minimum 3 years within Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms
  • Automation and Coding experience – Terraform, Ansible
  • Experience in public and private cloud environments, IT infrastructure operations (server/workload, storage/data protection, networks), for various cloud service models
  • Technical Certifications: Current VMware, cloud, or coding certifications or a firm commitment to obtain one. Preference will be given to candidates with existing certifications
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead projects or teams, with a history of mentoring others and driving technical initiatives

Key Responsibilities:

  • VMware Expertise: Serve as the go-to expert for VMware, managing, maintaining, and optimizing infrastructure for performance, security, reliability and automation
  • Hands-on skill with vCenter, ESX, and Aria; identify gaps and implement solutions
  • Experience with Azure Local (Stack) and how it integrates with Azure to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Security: System hardening, patch management, compliance management including NERC-CIP, vulnerability management
  • Monitoring and Logging: Define and manage monitoring solutions, thresholds, and metrics
  • Automation and Scripting: Proficiency in Bash, YAML, or other scripting languages to automate processes
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Lead by example, guide junior team members, contribute to team strategy
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Engage in cross-functional initiatives to support team goals
  • Incident Management: Resolve critical incidents with rapid response and long-term solutions
  • Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to team meetings with ideas and enhancements
  • Documentation and Project Management: Experience with Confluence and JIRA, maintaining clear documentation and managing tasks/workflows

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • On-call support is required for this role
