Job description

Global Functions Technology (GFT) is part of RBC's Technology and Operations division. GFT's impact is far-reaching as we collaborate with partners from across the company to deliver innovative and transformative IT solutions. Our clients include Risk, Finance, HR, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking, and Wealth Management. We also lead the development of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration.

As a Sr DevOps & Environments Engineer, you will be a member of the DevOps / Environments and Compliance team responsible for supporting and resolving all DevOps, Environment, and Compliance Vulnerabilities within the Global Functions Technology Risk IT organization. You will work with Infrastructure, DevOps, and Application teams in a timely manner, seeking new ways to automate and develop processes. You will lead by example, guiding junior staff on procedures and processes. This role requires you to be located in the Halifax, NC region with a hybrid commute to the office.

What will you do?
  • Work as a key and inclusive member of the DevOps / Environments & Compliance team.
  • Collaborate with core team members such as Team Lead, DevOps Engineers, Environment Analysts, and Compliance Analysts.
  • Develop automation and infrastructure as code to improve operational consistency and efficiency.
  • Install and troubleshoot DevOps and Environment Application Components.
  • Provision or decommission servers and all associated infrastructure and DevOps components.
  • Debug and resolve customer escalations from internal support teams.
  • Contribute to platform features that enhance self-service capabilities; improve diagnostics collection and reporting.
  • Support implementation of DevOps practices and tools; review/write code in Python, Java, or shell scripting to meet business needs.
  • Create and document code snippets in supported languages for DevOps pipelines to assist developers.
  • Continuously learn new programming languages and technologies to support the team.
What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 3+ years of application development and support experience.
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, UCD, Jira, Confluence.
  • Experience with Environments technologies like Windows 2019, Red Hat v7-9.
  • Proficiency in Excel and ability to prepare data for upper management reports.
  • Experience scripting for automation (Shell, Ansible, Python).
  • Excellent communication skills, proactive thinking, and a desire to learn.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with AI chat platforms (OpenAI, ChatGPT).
  • Familiarity with Scheduler Tools (Stonebranch, Autosys).
  • Experience with middleware (MQ, REST API, Tomcat, Jboss).
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Experience with big data technologies (Hadoop/Spark), Virtual Servers, SQL, Oracle, DB2, Storage SAN/NAS, Jira, Confluence.
