As part of an integral team, you will have the chance to show initiative and seek out collaborative opportunities with other product development teams to guarantee the success of our privacy and data collection platforms. You will make a direct contribution to the CBC.ca website and global infrastructure, exploring opportunities to optimize our platforms’

Most recently, our team created personalized user-facing interfaces on the landing page for CBC’s Olympics landing page enabling a unique customized view of the Olympics content based on what the DMP tool determined to be of interest.

CBC/Radio-Canada is the largest content producer in Canada, producing over 400 original pieces of content every single day. Our products are accessed by millions of Canadians each month, and presenting each Canadian with content that’s relevant to them is a very big challenge. This team is working on building audience segments that will enable us to better serve our audience. Working with us on the Audience Data and Privacy Team, you will work with billions of rows of data and will have the opportunity to rise to the challenges posed by the nature of our work.

CBC/Radio-Canada is the largest broadcaster in Canada and this team is at the very heart of its content creation experience. The Audience Data and Privacy Team (ADaPT) is responsible for building, maintaining and supporting the workflows and tools that allows us to better understand our audience and better tailor content to their individual needs. We accomplish this by federating content produced by CBC for distribution across CBC’s applications and broadly to content aggregators worldwide, delivering News, Sports, Podcasts, On-demand audio information to thousands of Canadians. We work with a lot of content types and platforms ranging from APIs, GQL, podcast audio files, live stream sporting events to audio content management.

You are a Fullstack Developer with several years of experience working with multiple languages and frameworks including Javascript, Typescript, Java, Python, and React. You have participated in the integration of a consent management platform in the past and are familiar with good data governance in the handling of personal information. You are seeking

How you will make an impact:

  • You will work across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including ownership of developing epics and stories,input into the architecture, creating front-end features and UI, building backend functionality, testing, and automating deployment, and CI/CD.
  • You have significant experience working with third party API integrations as the team creates and maintains APIs which power our web applications and apps
  • You will share your passion for data with an engaged team.
  • You will play a critical role in developing modules that integrate with our internal products, ensuring the team consistently delivers quality products.
  • You will use your knowledge of Node.js, Typescript, and JavaScript to build out front-end and backend products
  • You will be working on a team that creates and maintains APIs which power our web applications and apps.
  • You will be working with the team’s architects to come up with sustainable solutions for the problem space arising when working with large amounts of data and ensure that our products meet the industry standards.
  • You will be helping the team’s architects keep up-to-date on the latest developments in technology, assuring that our products remain modern, scalable, and performant.
  • You will be collaborating with other teams to ensure that the entire stack of products, including UI/UX, content management, and data analytics, all function smoothly together.
  • You will have a test-driven-design approach and be responsible for writing automated test cases and suites to ensure quality and quick deployments using latest and best practices.
  • You have an interest in working with many different technologies, including JavaScript Web frameworks, JavaScript and Python web server frameworks, Golang, Java, and Apache Beam.

What you bring to our team:

  • The education: A Computer Science, Engineering degree or equivalent is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their programming skills this way. You have the knowledge and understanding of software development and testing best practices. You are passionate about learning new technologies and exploring innovative solutions.
  • The tools: Demonstrated experience working with either JavaScript (Must), TypeScript (Must), Java (Desired), Go (Desired) and Python. You are comfortable working across the full SDLC, including using test automation frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright and Jest; and on deployments. You are comfortable working in a cloud and containerized environment using GCP, Azure, OpenShift, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Proven experience with the frameworks and vendor integrations/products that the ADaPT team currently works on , e.g. React, Apache Beam. products can be good to have e.g. Data Clean Rooms, Blueconic, Lotame, Didomi
  • The experience: You have previously successfully participated in the implementation of a consent management platform and worked to integrate data pipelines and APIs
  • The communication skills: You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives.
  • The collaborative Agile experience: You enjoy collaboration, pair-programming, and knowledge sharing. You do your best work in a team-focused environment. You believe in the Agile methodology, and you are flexible and open to change. You are comfortable with iterative and incremental development.
  • Data governance and privacy expertise: You have a general awareness of Privacy by Design, a general awareness of consent frameworks (Interactive Advertising Bureau’s - IAB’s Transparency Consent Frameworks), and a general awareness of privacy legislation (GDPR, CCPA, Bill C-27, Quebec law 25).
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
