RCL - Reitmans Canada Limited is seeking a Senior Designer, Concept for the PENN.Penningtons brand to shape material strategy and product direction. You will fuse concept, fabric, color, and innovation, acting as the material expert and creative connector across the design and sourcing teams.

You’ll collaborate closely with the Design Director and Global Sourcing to translate brand DNA into tangible materials and seasonal storytelling, leveraging textile innovation and market trends to elevate

Qualifications

• Fashion + Concept: spot changes and make them relevant for PENN.Penningtons customer.
• Textile + Material: understand fabric feel, behavior, performance and transforms a garment.
• Color: understand how color, material, texture and finish work together.
• Silhouette: fabric and fit are inseparable, and how material influences drape, structure, movement and proportion.
• Customer: understand their lifestyle, expectations and what will make product feel new, desirable and right for them.

Responsibilities

• Define the Material Vision across fabrics, yarns, trims, textures and craftsmanship.
• Collaborate with the Design Director to bring brand DNA to life through material.
• Stay ahead of textile innovation and translate into opportunities for the brand.
• Shape seasonal concepts from research through rollout.
• Create previews, seasonal strategies and creative presentations.
• Identify macro/micro trends and translate into ideas for the brand.
• Bring newness through material, color, texture and techniques.
• Create a clear creative thread from inspiration to product.
• Lead the Design team’s material partnership with Global Sourcing.
• Consolidate material needs across categories into clear briefs.
• Communicate direction to international partners.
• Identify priorities for development, sampling, costing and production.
• Be a source of material knowledge and inspiration for the team.
• Contribute to design reviews and presentations.
• Anticipate future brand needs and evolving capabilities.
