About the role

In near real-time, Cisco Meraki collects massive amounts of data from devices worldwide. We generate nearly 7 million data points every second, powering our Dashboard and providing insights into network health. As a member of the Data Infrastructure team, you will coordinate, scale, secure, and maintain our on-premises relational and non-relational database systems, guiding engineering teams towards best practices to meet their data needs.

What you will do :

• Work with SRE teams to plan, administer, maintain, and secure our PostgreSQL infrastructure
• Perform operational DBA duties: installation, upgrades, patching, backup/recovery, monitoring, capacity planning, and failover procedures
• Analyze and tune queries to ensure high system performance
• Guide engineers on performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, caching, and buffer tuning
• Review database changes for impact on design standards, data conversions, and documentation
• Learn data usage to recommend improvements in storage and processing
• Collaborate with Data Engineering to design and maintain ETL pipelines for PostgreSQL
• Develop data migration procedures and scripts
• Automate schema management with tools like Liquibase or ActiveRecords
• Support architectural changes involving cloud and on-prem environments

About you

• Deep knowledge of designing and maintaining PostgreSQL infrastructure on-premises and in the cloud
• Experience with mission-critical production database systems
• Ability to analyze issues holistically, from application to storage
• Proven automation skills
• Understanding of relational database internals (locking, consistency, recovery)
• Proficiency in scripting languages (shell, Python, Perl)

Nice to have

• Experience with NoSQL databases and memory stores like Redis
• Experience migrating databases between on-prem and cloud
• Knowledge of Timeseries databases and messaging queues
