Donna Cona Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Database and Systems Administrator, for a remote contract opportunity with one of our key clients.
Background: Our client is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Database and Systems Administrator with a strong background in both database management and infrastructure operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases, combined with solid hands-on expertise in Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and Azure cloud technologies – particularly Azure Active Directory (Entra ID). This role is critical to maintaining the security, availability, and performance of both our on-prem and cloud-based infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a key part in supporting enterprise systems, ensuring best practices are followed, and contributing to ongoing modernization efforts across our IT environment.
Scope: As a Senior Database and Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing databases (SQL Server and Oracle) while also handling key systems operations tasks. This includes managing Active Directory (AD), Azure Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), and Windows Server environments. You will work closely with cross-functional IT teams to maintain a secure, high-performance infrastructure and play a vital role in enhancing the reliability, scalability, and security of both our on-premises and cloud-based systems.
Candidate MUST have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field;
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator or Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) in Oracle Database Administration;
- Additional certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or certifications in Active Directory / Azure Entra ID management are highly desirable;
- Minimum of 15 years of experience as a Database Administrator with expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases;
- Experience in managing and troubleshooting Active Directory environments, Group Policy, and Windows Server configurations;
- Solid experience with system performance monitoring, database optimization, and security management;
- Experience in database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
Candidate should have the following demonstrated experience:
- In-depth knowledge of database management, performance tuning, and high availability configurations for SQL Server and Oracle databases;
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Active Directory management, Group Policy administration, and Windows Server management;
- Proficiency with automation and scripting tools (PowerShell, Bash, etc.) for system and database administration;
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a focus on resolving performance and system issues;
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
- Able to work in a team environment as well as work on individual tasks;
- Excellent writing and documentation skills;
- High level of organizational skills;
- Able to manage multiple priorities and handle tasks in a fast-paced environment;
- Experience with cloud-based database management (Azure) and hybrid infrastructure environments;
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Nutanix;
- Experience with database replication, clustering, and other high-availability setups;
- Knowledge of security best practices, including database and network security.
