About The Position
In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the Senior Database Administrator performs a variety of duties to ensure the effective development, implementation, maintenance, and support of database systems throughout Interior Health according to established policies, procedures, and standards.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities
- Conducts feasibility studies for computerization by determining user department requirements, examining and identifying problems with existing systems, and recommending modifications or new systems. Provides details of estimated implementation costs including staffing requirements.
- Plans, designs, implements, documents, and supports relational database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server.
- Works collaboratively with Information/Application development staff to analyze requirements and develop new or modify existing logical and physical database architectures to achieve optimal database design.
- Creates and implements efficient database objects such as tables, queries, views, stored procedures, jobs, functions, and scripts using industry-standard languages, techniques, and tools such as SQL.
- Collaborates with technical teams within DH to ensure database infrastructure is optimized.
- Develops and implements best practices for database access, security, performance, and tuning in accordance with established business processes.
- Develops, implements, and maintains change control and testing processes for new server/database development and modifications to existing servers/databases.
- Monitors database servers and system objects, including stored procedures and execution times, to implement efficiency improvements and proactively address performance issues using industry-standard database techniques and tools.
- Codes new programs and changes to existing programs from specifications; tests, modifies, and maintains programs as needed.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures relating to regular server and database maintenance to ensure the stability and reliability of data access across the organization.
- Performs capacity planning, including allocating system storage and planning for future storage requirements.
- Provides support and advice to peers and DH professionals in the development and support of database architecture across Interior Health.
- Liaises with vendors to ensure that server, database, software, and systems issues are resolved.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
