Senior Data Scientist, Information Services and Digital Solutions (ISDS)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Advanced Analytics and Data Science
- Overall responsibility of deliverables from within the Data Strategy and Analytics team in the ISDS Division
- Mining, cleaning and delivery of data products to business users with the expertise to write code, analyze and synthesize large data sets
- Deliver advanced analytics and data insights to all divisions/departments at the OSC
- Planning, structuring and optimization of how data moves through OSC systems/applications, in order to create the securities master as the 360 Degree view of data for financial instruments such as stocks, bonds, derivatives, mutual funds, FX, reference data, etc.
- Contribute to organization best practices for analytics and data science through recommendations to team lead
- Partner with stakeholders in the data ecosystem to create efficient and reliable pipelines for data ingestion and processing, will focus on enhancing smooth coordination and automation of data workflows, and to reduce latency and improve reliability.
- Lead a variety of challenging analytics initiatives in parallel, and overall timelines; Ensuring end deliverables of analytics projects meet end user expectations, and make modifications where required
- As a team member in an Agile Framework, participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog grooming, stakeholder demos and daily scrums
- Liaise with stakeholders to onboard and refine data needed to perform data analytics, queries, and research.
- Establish strong understanding of data entities, security master and their contextual relationship with analytics and data science needs
Leadership and Subject Matter Expertise
- Promptly respond and resolve enquiries about financial data, acting as a key supporting resource for financial market security master database.
- Manage and maintain securities database for various financial instruments, including equities, bonds, exchange traded derivatives, FX and OTC derivatives.
- Source, cleanse, and normalize static and dynamic data for various financial instruments from multiple financial market data providers.
- This role will be responsible for understanding and applying industry best practices to the advanced analytics and data flow within the OSC, by leading the creation and implementation of cutting-edge technology solutions and the deployment of programming languages, to guide the analytics and data science strategy of the ISDS DivisionContinuously review, enhance and optimize security market data processing workflows to ensure database’s efficiency, accuracy, and consistency with no redundancy.
- Liaise with internal end-users to collect feedback on services provided; analyze requirements from feedback received, update deployment processes and protocols and where necessary prepare change recommendation reports.
- As subject matter expert, participate in code review, knowledge sharing and quality assurance of any deliverable outputs
Qualifications
As one of the senior members of the team, you will have previously worked with clients in similar capital markets or in a regulatory or financial setting. You thrive in an environment that is undergoing significant change, and you have an ability to extract meaning from lightly defined requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of securities master, and the capital market participants, including the Ontario Securities Act and regulations
- A strong capability for developing products to support change management and drive innovative data solution goals
- Strong understanding and experience delivering highly complex data science solutions utilizing various open-source tools, combined with Microsoft Azure services
- A talent for synthesizing technological and business concepts and presenting them to a diverse audience of stakeholders both of a technological and non-technological background at all levels of seniority
- Understanding of multiple lines of business to facilitate communication between multiple stakeholders efficiently and effectively
- Skilled negotiator and communicator with superior written and verbal communication skills to report on project advancements
- Advanced critical thinking, analytical and decision-making capabilities
- Ability to build authentic relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Big thinker – excellent ability to strategically evaluate options and deliver robust solutions independently
- Results oriented and deadline driven with an ability to multi-task, set priorities, coordinate and schedule effectively
- Proven builder of teams and visions, with the ability to assist management in growing junior staff skill sets to be stronger contributors
Educational/Technical Training Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in STEM programs, including Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business or other related discipline
- Master’s degree in related discipline preferred but not required
- CFA designation or working towards CFA designation preferred
- 10+ years of relevant experience in financial industry and capital market data experience
- Experience with Advanced Analytics, Data Visualization and/or application development language and tools, such as Python, R, DataBrick, PowerBI
- Strong experience working with big data (structured and unstructured), and defining efficient solutions to unlock data capabilities
- Ability to interpret, understand and incorporate highly complex emerging developments within the discipline. Ideally can interact with academic research and identify practical applications of emerging trends and themes
- Ability to develop and deliver effective reports, presentations, briefing notes and papers to management
- Ability to accurately, thoroughly and efficiently handle/analyze high volumes of data from a variety of sources and formulate data into simple, complete and concise qualitative and quantitative formats
