Job summary

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) invites a seasoned data science professional to lead advanced analytics initiatives across regulatory and policy domains. You will design cloud-based analytics products, mine large data sets, and translate complex problems into actionable insights that inform decision making.

You will mentor staff, collaborate with stakeholders, and help set analytics standards while applying Python, NLP, and open-source tools in a capital markets context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of data science, analytics, or app development experience.
• Experience in capital markets or regulatory environments is a plus.
• Proficiency with Python; experience with R, Scala, PySpark, Angular or React JS.
• Experience delivering data science projects using open-source tools and Azure.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of advanced analytics and data science solutions for OSC divisions.
• Mine, clean, analyze and synthesize large structured and unstructured datasets into data products and insights.
• Architect, prototype, test and deliver cloud-based analytics solutions with measurable business value.
• Manage multiple analytics projects, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify needs and translate concepts into deliverables.
• Apply Python, AI, NLP to solve complex business problems.
• Contribute to analytics standards, controls, and best practices including code reviews.
• Guide and mentor data science staff, coordinate tasks, monitor progress.
• Build training materials and educate OSC staff on new analytics processes and products.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and daily scrums.

You will develop cloud-based analytics products, help shape the OSC’s analytics roadmap, and guide technical staff while collaborating with stakeholders across the organization.This is an opportunity for an experienced data science professional who combines deep technical capability with strong business judgment, clear communication, and an understanding of capital markets or regulatory environments.What you will doLead the design and delivery of advanced analytics and data science solutions for divisions across the OSC.Mine, clean, analyze and synthesize large structured and unstructured data sets into useful data products and insights.Architect, prototype, test and deliver complex cloud-based analytics solutions that demonstrate business value quickly.Lead multiple analytics projects in parallel, managing deliverables, timelines, service commitments and stakeholder expectations.Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify needs, onboard and refine data, and translate abstract concepts into tangible deliverables.Apply Python, artificial intelligence, natural language processing and text mining to solve complex business problems.Contribute to analytics standards, methodologies, controls and best practices, including code review, quality assurance and knowledge sharing.Guide and mentor data science team staff, coordinate task-level work, monitor progress and support capability development.Build training materials and educate OSC staff on new analytics processes and products.Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, stakeholder demonstrations and daily scrums.What you bringBachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
